HONOR THY RöHREN

Tubes are not like diamonds, they don't last forever. So when they die, it's nice to give them some 'dignity'' after many years of 'service'. Below, a couple of 'fallen' tubes that are enshrined in my listening room. I wanted to give then a 21 BB Gun salute but it run out of gas. :D

LET FREEDOM SING !!!!

Since the tube will set you free, we must then let this freedom ring, er, sing. (In audio, the term 'ringing' is a bad thing) :D

A matched, identical batch code of my favorite 12AX7 variant just hit town, complete with original box with acid etch mark of the fabled MC1 long plate square getter 1950s Mullard made in their Blackburn factory.

Image

Below, the MC1 markings with the same date code for both tubes.

Same Batch Codes L 126:

Original boxes with the 'bokeh' effect in the photography parlace:

The Minimax Phono's second gain stage has been pregnant with anticipation for the arrivals of these beauties. The German Telefunken Red Tips will make a retreat for the moment.

MORE TUBE TWINS

If the twin 12AX7s landed, will the twin 12AU7 be far away? The Royal Air Force has been doing a great job landing these twins on these shores. Greatly appreciated.

HOLY EMANCIPATION !!! :D

Playing this pair of tubes in my line stage really set me free! It blew me away and not only glued my back to the seat but floated me in the air like I was in a state of levitation. :D The sad thing is after 2 days of testing, Morita passed by and took them home. This is by far the best sounding ECC82/12U7 variant I've ever heard. Saluten!!!

HALO IS SAINTLY...

Image

I've been waiting for a "Halo" (Round) getter, 17mm Long Plate Mullard to come to replace my old halo long plate for a while and finally a super strong piece arrived. I was told by my M88 British spies that this thing measures 100% in current draw and transconductance on each triode. Perfect!

AMPEREX BUBLE BOY

Image

Finally was able to land a strong piece of the famed Amperex Bugle Boy series of tubes, this one a 12AX7, with a Delta acid etched code and round getter. I heard there is a long plate version with foil getter. The hunt continues.

Image

Good sound. An 'all-around' tube from top to bottom, clean and defined, but Mullard long plates are still the king of the mids for me. :)

Have you tried this ECC83? Everyone who has keep saying "game over!" These are the balanced version. I recommend you get them while you can.
