journey

Postby XLR_silver » Wed Jul 28, 2004 1:13 pm

hello jadis,

wow!!!

:o :o :o

question: how did the owners of these systems choose their gear? did they get advise from experts? did they do it on their own? did they choose based on readings from hi-fi magazines? did they go to CES or hi-fi shops around the world?

please share some exerpts on their setting-up journey :)

thanks!

I noticed the room accoustics of the two system differ greatly.

krell - B&W

A lot of diffussor in the speaker end...or are they also absorber (abfussor)? Are those columns as bass traps? Ceiling treatment?

halcro - Dyn

It seem like covered absorbers in the speaker end.

How do you compare the room sound... to each other and your room...

I am not familiar with the Halcro room. Been there only once. Those are diffusors, copied from RPG. And the center column is another DIY tube trap, used primarily for enhancing center image. Sorry, can't compare the MRA room to mine...too different. Gonna be too long a story too. :)

qguy,

For some GOOD reasons, (Zen philosophy), I do not get the feeling of not liking my
system anymore after hearing the Megabuck lotto systems. I admit before I DID. :)
There WERE some with Grand Slam systems, the Wilson ones, but I think the ones
I know either sold them or traded them in. The 'monstrous' Eggleston IVY will be visited
by yours truly soon. I hope someone can lend me a megabuck 8mgpx Leica or Nikon
to do justice to the view......akin ay lowly Canon3.2 lang. :)

Mike,

I don't know about the isolation platforms on the Krells...re speaker positioning, I personally prefer the pointed ends shooting at the walls. People have different tastes.
This position makes the soundstage wider.

I guess the trite answer would be listening to JR. :)
And oh, I now remember, the Krell rep was in town to talk
about the CAST and that might have helped in the owner's decision
to buy them.

Most things, if not all came from Listening in Style. For this owner,
he auditions at JR's store and then buys, apparently he likes it. Before
the MRAs, he had the FM Acoustics electronics.
And secondly, has the lotto money.

Can I present myself as your personal assistant :)...kahit taga buhat ng camera lang.....

BTW...the photos are excellent enough to provide the info needed ....those megapixel cameras are advantageous if your subjects are small such as jewelries and extreme closeups are needed...but since the subject would be Titanic Eggleston Ivy ..no need for that extra fine detail

qguy....anxiously waiting for the Eggleston Ivy Setup photos...

well, I hope my uncle allows me to take pics of the IVY.
I am just assuming he would......eh, uncle, eh.

You're doing good. You don't need 8mpxl cam. You're 3.2 is more than enough. Medyo low light kaya meron camera shake.

Sorry, off topic.

I estimate it to be about 1.5 to 2m from the floor.

On that Pipedreams photo, is that a power cord I see running parallel to a speaker cable? ;)
Great systems. Unfortunately, even dreaming about them are beyond my capabilities at this point. ;)
