Thanks to VD, WS is best thing thast happened to audio, high end audio, DIY, in the Philippines. Forming a club was a reason for those who already know each other to formally get together, then to recruit new members along the way. It was a difficult task as lone enthusiasts would have to familarize himself with a set of new found friends and try to fit in, which is not an easy task to be. Much like being the new student in a class in school. Not to mention that to find out you are the poorest kid in the class. Can you imagine getting inferiority complex?
The PAS was known to be the elite in as far as having the most expensive setups in this land. Maybe (I said maybe
) to their thinking they are but in reality there are a whole lot more audiophiles here who do not know PAS exists and own more superior equipment than most PAS members. They are a cluster of enthusiasts that do not realize there is a world outside of their walls. Reminsicent of the movie, The Last Emperor. I was approached by one of their member when they visited a friend's setup for the first time only to find out this fella had the latest toys for big time boys. He told me in disbelief that "all the equipment of ** is over P500,000 each!" In fairness though, they are a bunch of nice people who enjoy congregating among themselves and discusss anything under the sun, though most of the topic were non-audio related. Their membership of last count has dwindled to a mere dozen or so. The PAS is predominantly made up members who are of chinese descent.
A recent foray into a"audio club" was the ACP. Patterned after the Audiophile club of Athens, I guess. The club was doomed from day 1. They required applicants to have a setup with a P300,000 value. 1 Peso below the stipulated is not qualified. The guys who started it dropped out of audio before they could even get the club it to midair.
I have to thank VD, Arnoldc, rtsyrtsy, corrsty, and last but not least MSM for making WS what it is today.
