Audio Gears of A 'Neighbor' - JBL 250Ti, FR-66S, etc.

Postby jadis » Mon Jun 15, 2009 6:45 pm

A visit to a neighbor, not 'thy neighbor', :D yielded a lot of surprise audio toys that had me waxing nostalgic.

JBL 250 Ti Loudspeakers:

Wow, I never thought I'd see these beauties again after my first and only brush with them circa 1987, 22 years ago . :o And this is another pair, and singing beautifully in perfect condition. Fantastic sound on 'Thriller' and 'Holiday'. 8)

FR-66S Tonearm:

Image

Image

This, I heard, is the holy mackerel of 'vintage' tonearms. :D This is a 16" long tonearm. It makes the foot-long hotdog look like a vienna sausage. :D :D

The Luxman PD-555 TT:

Image

Image

Wow, what an sight to behold as far as TT's and TA's are concerned. :) A Grace tonearm is on the right side.

The Koetsu Onyx LONG BODY on the Orsonic Headshell: 8)

Image

The Audion 300B Power Amp:

Image

The Paragon Tube Pre-amp:

Image

'Spare' TTs:

Micro-Seiki RX5000:

Image

Solid copper platter and a massive indestructible plinth. I was told 3 people were needed to lift this thing up. :o :o

Pierre Lurne TT beside the Micro Seiki:

The sum of all these is the sum of all fears - more gears to hunt for, more 'budget' needed. Good thing I just take pictures.

actually i was planning to say woow to all gears posted but i dont wanna sound redundant lol. next time (word of advise) bring some professional photographer if this type of neighbor-raiding happens again j/k. been googling that RX 5000 and heres what i got:

http://www.zenn.com.sg/beautiful_brute.htm

"The RX5000 was selling for about S$5000 sixteen years ago. Sixteen years ago, I remember a friend of mine bought a double storey terrace house for S$35000. Thus US$19995 for a new Micro Seiki turntable today could be considered a bargain when we look at the fact that the average double storey terrace house nowadays goes for about a S$1 million."

thanks for the link. in the 80s, i remember seeing a picture ad of micro seiki's top model in TAS. and i would stare at it at night till i fall asleep. :D later on, i had a neighbor inside my village who actually owned one with at least 2 tonearms fitted on it. what a sight.

Philip,

if his gear is such a beautiful sight to behold, is it because the owner "takes care of people's eyes"??? :D

right your are, ka-bubs. the guy is amazing, really. despite collecting 'gears of the past', he has a lot of 'vision' as the future moves on. :)

that's right, nols. it's belt driven. machong macho nga ang FR-66. imagine if you are carrying 2 FR 66s into a mall to sell to buyer, you'd be stopped by the guard for carrying 'LONG ARMS'. :D :D

babydoc,

I wish he could have gotten the Goldmund Studio TT too as it was yet another gem to behold, just by looking at it...yes, there are so many kinds of TTs out there.

Yes, it's maporma, I've seen it in a couple of hobbyists' place. Maybe this one originally was yours. :)
