This small stuff has no audio significance really, but it stays in my listening room. Given to me by commander, I really did not know what to make out of it. The original souvenir program of Les Misérables performed at The Palace Theatre in London, also in 1994.

After the show, one will get hungry after reading the fine dining ads inside the booklet. There are quite a lot more of these 'food ads' in the booklet so as early as intermission, it is a good idea to start reading them to whet up a good appetite. :D :D

THE USERNAME "JADIS" FIT TO A 'T' :D :D :D

Been cleaning house for the past several weeks, and lo and behold, digging up things that I had forgotten. :D (There are good discoveries even in your own house) :D A pleasant surprise, this T-shirt that apparently was given to me by the Jadis distributor in the 90s. The size was a bit too tight for me, so I never got to wear it much. But now, it makes a nice 'audio memento', and fits this username quite well. :)

Thanks for the post, Gerry. Keep them coming.

And, while cleaning up more closets, I found this Audio Advisor product catalog, which reminded me of your brother ordering some audio gears from this mail order company in the early 90s, like VTL and Tripplite line conditioners. I actually bought a Tripplite from him.

The venerable AR- ES1, circa 90s. The marketing pitch then was, 'pare, i-play mo ang plaka sa AR-1, tapos takpan mo ang dust cover, tapos hampasin mo ng sapatos ang cover, hindi tatalon ang karayom sa plaka'. How's that for 'perfect sound forever'? :D

Looking at the difference in the catalogs of Acoustic Sounds from 1988 to 1990 reflects its incredible growth from a small snail mail order company into one of the premiere internet software and hardware shops in the world. In my conversations with coltrane, we both regard him as the one responsible for the analog renaissance that has been going on. The owner, Chad Kassam, has even ventured into record production with heavy investments on recording equipment, studios and top-notch recording engineers. A big salute to the folks a A.Sounds for their wonderful organization and providing music lovers a great abyss to empty their wallets and credit cards. :D

Aptly named Reference Recordings, this company indeed has set a 'reference' in terms of bringing the best of recorded music to one's home system, at least that is the humble goal of the people behind it, namely Tamblyn Henderson, Keith Johnson, and Marcia Martin. Though they started passionately with analogue LPs, and my first 'audiophile' LP was their RR-7 'Prof. Johnson's Astounding Sound Show', they have continuously spearheaded great innovations in digital recordings; with their trademark HDCD and today, the state-of-art HRx high resolution wav file on a DVD-R data disc. They call it a bit-for-bit copy of their digital master recordings. More of this high tech disc HERE

Although I may be years away from diving into such high tech stuffs, it is commendable of RR to render to the public, products that mimics their digital masters and reproduces such high fidelity into our home systems. A big   to the folks at Reference Recordings.

Early this year, when my balikbayan cousin visited us here at home, he was surprised when he listened from my simple system. He was shocked to learn that I was into vinyl. They have a system playing back in CA, but it’s not engaging when you’re spinning. So we played music of Sting, REM, China Crisis Jazz etc.

When he got back from his vacation, I dropped him an email asking him if he could look for a Pass Aleph power amps. Several weeks passed by & there was none. So I guess – wala Na!

Sometime May, I got a call from him saying he was told by a friend that somebody was selling aleph power amps. Immediately that weekend he drove for an hour to check the items. When he got to the seller’s place, he called me up & described the conditions as detailed as possible, and even played it to check the quality of sound. It is indeed in A1 condition and I asked him to pay for it.

While I made arrangements with my forwarder to pick up the items in CA, I asked my relative to take it to a reliable technician & have it converted to 220V. Unfortunately, there’s no one around to do the job, so he volunteered to take it to PASSLAB since he will be in that area the following week. He made a few calls before hand and told me it will cost $100/unit with warranty. Napaisip ako doon, but I said Oh sige na nga dalhin mo na sa Pass :D .

After 2 weeks, I asked him if he got the amps already. He has actually forgotten about it and made calls to Pass service department regarding the status. He was bolt from the blue when the guy from the service department told him that they couldn’t find it. Patay! Upon asking around, the guy told him that Nelson took it home when he saw my amps. The guy explained to my cousin that it’s a good news (he owns the company). Nelson Pass has new testers & equipments which were not available before the design of aleph 30. He will use it with your amps and refurbish & convert it to 220V personally – It’s worth the wait! I then realised how Nelson Pass truly love his creation with the 2nd generation of Aleph. If you will read the previous stereophile issues during the 90’s John Atkinson told fellow writers that indeed they need to overhaul Class A recommended products. Aleph 3 shook stereophile’s rating of Class A products. Nelson Pass holds several amplifier patents and share his know how to other amplifier designers. He is the only one I know who has the design of Single Ended Triode (SET) Solid State pure Class A  .

Now that I got my alephs, to my surprise he left me a note a special memorabilia. It's my most prized audio possession:
