Tungsol 5814's?

Postby red76 » Thu Jul 15, 2004 2:26 am

Hi Mang Rod,

Was the input/driver for your 4Watter SET amp Tungsol 5814's? I cant seem to remember. I just took a close look at the amp's picture Racio took and posted and I saw Sylvania 5751's installed instead of 5814's. I'm confused. :?

Anyways, if ever you have NOS Tungsol 5814's I'd be really interested in buying a pair if you're selling.:) If memory serves me right when Arnold and I (was wearing a yellow polo if you remember) were having a listen you told us that they were Tungsol 5814's. We were both quite smitten by that cute amp of yours. Thanks.

It's NOS JAN/SYLVANIAS 5814 military tubes as driver and JAN/SYLVANIA 5751 as input tube. The Tungsols are the 5998 4watts power tubes.

Mang Rod you have to let me sample your set amp sometime. Just send it collect to me if you can. I miss the preamp you had me try. It was good on the ravenswood el 84 based amp.

Hi Mang Rod,

Thank you for the reply. Do you by any chance sell any NOS 5814 pair? Meron pa palang driver tubes sa likod ng amp kaya pala nalito ako. Sa harap yung 12AX7 variants.

ichabod,

I replied to your JBL widerange driver query with links attached. I hope you read it.

Trodt's MAGNUM 44 SET

Postby Trodt Audio » Fri Jul 16, 2004 8:20 pm

No problem Ichabod, everybody are welcome to borrow my SET for a test. However, what is available now is the Trodt's MAGNUM 44, the new name of the SET 4 watter because it delivers 4 watts each channel in stereo. An audiophile friend of mind had a chance already of reviewing this Magnum 44 with his system and his findings is very revealing and surprising. He found that the Magnum 44 works like a push-pull amp with a soft and sweet tonal character overall but can be aggresive too on a given situation. It is very unassuming from a 4 watter SET to perform at par with push-pull tubes like the KT88 and EL34. If you have tried and listened to this amp during the Audio Fair in tandem with the Bolero and the Mission M72, i bet it kicks a lot of overrated tube amps. A friend of mine likes very much the delivery of the bass and focus of the mids and hi's. There were different 6 tracks which were chosen and tested bymy friend that Fair and it shows no uncopromising performance for a small amp.

Hello Red76, 5814s are rare nowadays being a rigid military version of a 12au7 and i hope i won't disappoint you. Since 5814s or 12au7 has low voltage rating, it contributes a lot to the elimination of any unwanted hums from your amps, of course among other facors baka mag disagree ang iba dyn. Hence, when applied to the 5998s for 4 watts amplification, it really excels. Now, the secret is that there is actually only two small tubes on this amp and nothing more at the back. One is JAN/Sylvania 5814 as preamp and second is the JAN/Sylvania 5751. How this amp is able to do the job well can only be proven when it sings.

Thank you.

Trodt Audio, I'd very much like to queue up for the Magnum 44 home audition. And the TRODT 845 as well, that is if it ain't too much of a trouble. :)

Oh I get it now, left is input 5751, right tube is 5814's.... No prob Mang Rod, I'll try to find other sources for 5814 types (Sylvania or Tungsol), from date it's the most balanced 12Au7 variant i've heard. Thanks.

Your Magnum 44 (4W per side kasi? :) ) is a Little David that kicks most Goliath amps' ass in terms of refinement and nimbleness/agility :D . Even with the limited time listening at the fair I also had a similar impression as your friend about it having the balance and sweet tone of very good sounding PP ECL86 amps but with a more vivid 3D Triode front row perspective. Parang the music is "dancing on your lap". How much more if you have more efficent speakers driving it....

I'm the one who requested for some analog stuff if I remember. :D
