Help with Thorens

Postby Amplifine » Tue Sep 20, 2005 10:20 pm

Just recently bought a Thorens Phantasie which is based on a TD 320. I know we have a huge following for these decks but I was wondering if parts could be bought locally. I was looking at the leaf springs, motor pulleys etc. :? Help with Thorens please :(

Hi Amplifine,
I'm not so sure as where leaf springs can be sourced. Most Thorens have coil springs. There is a German company that makes springs for the 100 series and metal pulleys for the 100 and 300 series. Their website is: http://www.phonosophie.de
Check that out.

Have you re-lubed, Amplifine? Suggest you remove the sub platter bearing and clean the well and put new oil. There are many thoughts on the type of oil. Some use molybdenum grease as the spindle bearing is not exactly tight fit on the Thorens. Some use Mobil One. Others use SAE 40 motor oil while some use ordinary Singer Sewing Machine oil. Take your pick. I use the same oil I use for my VPI which I sourced from VPI.
As far as the belt goes, it must not be tight as if it is it will cause some noise as the spindle will rub against the well too much. Got to make sure it is really the right length of belt.
