Latest turntable project went on hold while waiting for some parts to arrive.

Took the opportunity to try out a dovetailing jig I bought early this year. Did practice runs on some blemished wood before using good lumber I've been saving.
The finished product came out better than what I expected. Sounds good too!

Woodframe is kamagong and the wood bordering the top plate is Balayong (highly favored by the old folks of batangas over Narra). No special coat other than regular oiling.
Tonearm is stock and was originally intended for the trash bin. Last year, Mandym paid me a visit and volunteered to give it a try in reconditioning it then gave it back to me as a christmas gift. Can't believe how something so clunky looking could sound that good.

Thanks to All of you guys for the kind words :)

Mamimili,

Got the jig from Home Depot. There may be jigs that could be cheaper but It was the lowest price I could find. One router bit was included in the kit.

very nice half blind dovetails sir, I presume the pins and tails were done in a single pass? did you get the jig locally? my friends would love to have one of those. and from your pictures, it seems that it can be used on the router table as well.
congratulations on your plinth and the great work sir... not only are they pretty, the joints are designed to last longer that us... :geek:

Thank you! I now feel the need to visit a mall (a rare thing these days) as my poor Lenco still awaits a plinth

Thanks! I am very flattered to hear such encouraging words from the wood working master himself :)

It's my first time to do a dovetail joint. A second pass is actually encouraged to smoothen the edges. It became half blind because it was the only bit included in the kit and the wood that I had was oversized 3/4.

I got the jig from a Home Depot branch in Alexandria, VA while hunting for some tiger maple boards. I am just not sure if it is available locally but it should. It is quite versatile as it can be used on an ordinary table and a router table as well. It's easy to use especially for beginers like me and a cheap one at that.

hehehe, anyway the half blind dovetails seem to look much better on projects as such... the half blind dovetails is so much nicer in lots of ways and is often harder to perfect.
I can hardly miss a thread that has dovetails in the title... :) it is like a magnet for me :geek: :geek:

Rex, Boss Val, Thanks :)

darvin,

Nagulat din ako at how intense the red came out when I applied oil. first time I've seen this variety of kamagong (if ever it is kamagong). The wood board itself isn't perfect, has very fine/small cracks but it seems to add character to the wood.

Two of the joints came out a bit loose than I wanted so I cheated a little by applying turbo glue on the inside of the loose joints to maintain the right angle. It might not be acceptable for you purists.
