Jon, the top of the plinth is made of acrylic and was crafted by Killer mike but basically the plinth is made of layered plywood wrapped in wood and acrylic just for aesthetics. The Inspiration for the design of the plinth was taken from the Scottish "Source Turntable" made by John Gordon also the designer of the Odyssey tonearm. I originally Tried to cloak the top with leather (as in the Source turntable) but the overall sound was a bit too damped with the rest of my gear so I tried Acrylic which synergized better, besides I needed a perfectly flat surface for the tonearm as the arm has it's own quirks.
Dante, In comparison with my classic layered plywood plinth, The whole rig sounds more composed and quiet but all the attributes of the garrard remain. It's matter of taste of course and I have'nt done some serious comparisons. It seems that I hear more of the Uwe bodied Denon.
