Kagulo rin si Tonya...remember, he also owns a flinstone 301 & woody 401. All three of us own Garrard 301s. This rubber plinthed 301 was simply awesome. It's goona be tough choosing what plinth to build your 301 with.

Doc , so whats your next project?

Hi,

Just last saturday audio session, the 301 performance was so-so with the same koetsu cart. We dont like the combination of the cart, arm and table.
With the change of plinth, its an entirely different table!! :P
I could not believe a koetsu performing that way. Strings, brass, piano are lifelike with very tight bass. We tried with the usual test LP's we are familiar and "unbelievable", we are hearing things we dont normally notice.

Maybe its synergy with the rubberized plinth, but in the end its the performance of the music presented by the 301, plinth and cart.

Dear Doc,

This is a great find. It appears that the rubber plinth's role is providing transparency and allowing the 301 exhibit its muscle less the external vibrations and contaminations.

I wonder what this will do with other turn tables :!:

Jeff, try this in your newly acquired GR1.2 as it needs plinth upgrading.

Keep us posted doc....thanks for sharing.

Kind regards,
JoeyGS

Nice MR.T, parinig naman...the greatness of the GARRARD is the ability to play around with it ...

The Magallanes MAFIA can arguably be considered in the forefront of Garrard plinth experimentation ...almost all material covered

from hardest (granite) to softest (rubber)

from natural to man-made

WOWOWOW....great

A brilliant idea Doc!! Why didn't I think of it before?

Since I believe that the perfect analog reproducer filters out all vibrations except the ones generated by the record grooves, one of the things I did for my latest plinth was to use wood that is soft and light in order to absorb vibrations and tame resonances. I think hard materials would simply reflect vibrations back to the source rather than absorbing them. A comparison of reflectivity between a mirror and a piece of cardboard might be an apt analogy!

I am still not fully content with the wood I used. It still has its signature sound (self resonance) and still short on damping.

Hard rubber!!! CAPITAL!!! Why didn't I think of it before? RATS!!!
Doc you have stoked my creative flames. A plinth made of hard rubber and lead sheet ply anyone?

mandym & rene- Thank you for your comments. It was a thought w/c became reality thru the help of my friend, Mr. T. Should you have the time, let's sked a session in my friends house w/ his rubberized 301. I guarantee you, you will leave the session shocked. You will look at a Garrard 301 in a different perspective.

Rene- if you're free tom eve, sama ka sa mga garrard boyz. Ok?

Ric- The owner, Tonya and I were eager to find out how it sounded. I had just finished setting the cart/tonearm. We put on a re-issue of Nat King Cole's LOVE IS THE THING... DANG His image became focused and precise. Tonality balanced out from the previous midrange bloat. The bottom end became HUGE and tight. You should hear Almeida's Feel So Good from NEW DIRECTIONS LP. The drum playing was stupendous as was HOT STIX. I still haven't gotten over what I heard.
