Many have been asking me about my Orbe... w/c became armless after the err 'amputation'...kawawa naman daw :!:  Here's how it is doing after the amputation/transplant w/c was followed by a 'grafting':

The 'grafted' tonearm is a fully modded Origin Live RB250. The cartridge mounted is a NOS Fidelity Research MC201 which has about 6-8hrs on it.

I was obviously concerned after the 'amputation'. What to do? I had a stock RB300 on-hand w/c was the way I received the Orbe more than a year ago when I first got it. At the time it performed remarkably well with the Skala. Only when I put on the SME V did realize the immensity of the divide separating the two.

I knew that the arm I'd eventually mount on my Reference Orbe should be worthy of substituting for the lost SME V. In came the full mod OL RB250. I have long read about it's killer reputation as a giant killer and acquired it as a future project for a souped up SL-1200.

After listening to it for a couple of hours the other day(w/ Mojazz in attendance), I was so pleased with it's not yet broken-in performance, I decided to retain it on the Orbe. It is also beautiful to look at and hold. I'm very happy with it doing the yeoman's duty on the Orbe.

How does it compare with the same Litz wired SME V :?: No contest. The superior engineering & craftsmanship of the SME V will beat it anyday. But I must add: the great divide separating the SME V from a stock RB300 has closed up tremendously. IMHO, for far less cost, the full modded RB250 will let you step on the same stage as the big boys, though maybe not on the same platform.

The very important question w/c matters (which should be answered after listening to the FR/OL/Orbe combo) is: Can I enjoy the music in the same vinyl played back via the above :?: This is what analog is all about. The answer is a FIRM yes :!: :D

Congrats Doc on this 'double barrelled shotgun' magnificent table set-up. It won't be long till 3 arms are loaded. Sayang di pwede 7 arms para 'magnificent 7'. Of course, congrats too to Joey for the great woodwork. Tawagin mo na si RT para sa Thorens niya.

Thank you for your comments guys. You're welcome to listen to them. I don't know, I think this is what makes analog so interesting. There are many combos you can try out, not to mention the cartridges. There's still the Technics SL-1200 Mk3 w/ a Grado Red mounted and the Bling-Bling SL-1200 w/ the mono DL-102 cart. I've run out of tables, so the Mono set-up is on hold till I figure out what to do.

What's currently running in my attic are 4 ttables and 5 tonearms, 4 MC carts and an MM.
