401 with a vintage airbearing tonearm on a loricraft style oak plinth

Tried hard to hide the plinth as joe3rp's and amandarae's plinths would eat it alive.

odaey, your plinth is very good and I like it better due to the appearance of the "grain." Is that natural or not?

Pwede ba madinig yan?

Plinth

Postby odaey » Tue Aug 07, 2007 10:28 am

Stereophile,T-rex, Setup2, Hypertriode, arnoldc, Benc, Amandarae, raffy,

Thanks for the kind words!!!. Honestly the plinth is really rough around the edges. Will try to post some pics of it's details in the next few days. The plinth actually is intended for an Fid. Research fr 24 (which joel actually helped me recondition). This arm is presently on loan to a friend.

It's actually made from real oak. Taken from 1 x 5 inch x 8 feet oak board, split and glued together. The plinth board is made of 1/2 inch thick oak glued to an mdf board (it's was what i had, That's my excuse). It's a mix design somewhat like a loricraft and a vpi hw19.

I initially tried using squash balls cut into half to isolate the plinth board but they flat bottomed out. Using whole squash balls produced a sound that was'nt to my liking. So i improvised and used some rubber caps to suspend the board and produced a more acceptable sound.
