Finally, got ahold of a near mint Technics SL-1200. Thanks, Nols! :-) Your shop is truly the ANALOG SOURCE!

I blame the classic 2008 WS poster made available by BB3 for the inspiration. Alas, the universe has conspired to make my aspiration a reality.

And now for the next problem...how to insert another turntable rack next to the existing set-up I have. :-)

Technics SL-1200 Club

Postby dnk » Tue Feb 07, 2012 10:08 pm

Touchdown! A battle-proven sl1200 (with scars to prove it) has landed in my music room just this afternoon.

This table sports a shure m447 with an n55 stylus for better last track performance. From my initial impression, it matched well with my system especially when mated with the phono section of a vintage japanese integrated amp I had laying around.

Many thanks to TAS for helping me set it up and to amonv who dropped by for the first listening session with the 1200.

Is it possible for the SL1200 models to be fitted with SME Version V tone arm? If not direct, can it be modified for use with SME V? What will it cost?

Thanks.

they have the same mounting distance at 215mm so with just a change of armboard...the sme v will fit in the 1200.

however imho the 1200 is not the best table for your sme v as you will not benefit the precision quality of the sme v such as bearing smoothness and low arm resonance as the advantages such as increase soundstage and definition will just be eaten up by the inherent vibration and higher noise floor of the 1200. if you moving this route, suggest you also have to consider into aftermarket footers, body dampers, modified electronics and smoother spindle bearing, etc....a lot been floating on the net.
