SL-1350 - Now playing!

Postby arnoldc » Fri Aug 10, 2007 8:38 am

Somebody just dumped his 1350 to me last night. It does not a have a headshel, and I was told there's speed stability problem. Other than that, the unit is in VG condition.

I'd like to take a crack on the schematics, so I'll need one. Also, a user's manual will be nice.

In 1974 the first of a big family was born from the SL1200, namely the SL1300. It looks just like the SL1200, but it was fully automatic. In 1975 came the SP-10MKII, which had some sort of a (wired) remote control and an external power supply. In the same year Technics also released the SL1350. This one looked like a SL1100, but had the same features (auto start/stop, memo and pitch) like the original SL1300. It was a year Technics certainly felt very productive since it also released the SL1500 as a fully manual version of the SL1300 (fully automatic) and the SL1400 (semi-automatic).

Arnold, the circuit might be the same as the SL1300, but the chassis more like the SL1100. vinylengine.com have the service manual for the SL1300 but not the SL1350.

Ok. Are you planning to restore it? I decided to get the SL3300, so I am in the hunt for affordable cartridge for now.

Speed stability problems of Technics turntables are often fixed by changing those aging electrolytics.

Hi Alex, no need to restore. It's cosmetically VG. It's just the speed. I made you an offer on your SL-3300 thread. Check it out.

Hi Bruno, thanks for the confirmation. That's what I plan to do first. Because the previous owner of the unit said it was working fine, then suddenly the speed issue surfaced.

Here's the main board

It looks pristine, so the first thing to check are those electrolytics and ceramics (thanks Bruno for the confimation).

Does this look like the same board on an 1100 or 1200?

I don't have enough racks to put my 'tables, so I removed the acrylic cover and placed it on the second shelf of my rack. Since it does not have a headshell, I borrowed the one that came with my JVC and mounted the Empire 888P on it. Great sound!

This SL-1350 did not came with the record changer spindle, so the spindle is for single play.

Now I need to make more phono stage for the SL-1350 and my DIY 'table

Hindi ko ma i-adjust ang VTA nito, so I can't use the low-profile Empire 888P cartridge. I decided to use my Clearaudio Alpha, and boy, it sounds really nice.

Bye bye SL-1350. My DIY turntable has been playing perfectly since last Saturday. Now having five (5) turntables, isn't fun anymore.

I'm going to return the Technics to its original owner, so he can enjoy naman.
