recommend audiophile destinations in Tokyo?

Postby troporobo » Wed Sep 15, 2004 11:22 am

I am fortunate enough to be going to Tokyo next month and will have a free day. Any pinoydiophiles care to recommend some audio destinations? I've been to Akihabara ("Electric Town") once before but got overwhlemed with the chaos there and didn't know what I was looking for

I'm most interested in looking for tubes, DIY supplies, and maybe if affordable some Fostex F200 drivers. Plus I'm always interested in visiting those sorts of audio salons full of exotica that most of us never see or hear.

thanks in advance

Great idea - but as audio room tweaks would they work as well as a jar of "Brilliant Pebbles"? (joke lang!)

Unfotunately I understand only a little (probably just enough to get into trouble) I'm told the best way to learn any new language is to get a local girlfriend. But I suspect that might cause a LOT of trouble with my significant other!

Anyway my S.O. knows only too well how much audio gear costs, so I think the dolls won't do the trick - I'd better be shopping for a really special pasalubong if I'm bringing home any exotic parts.

In the land of 75 peso COKE in CAN, dont expect to get audio bargains. Pang window shopping lang ang Tokyo for audio 8)

I was a student in Japan back in 1984, so I don't know if the shops I used to go are still there. The last time I visited Tokyo was in 1996 but didn't have the time to go around anymore. There's an audiophile specialist shop near Shibuya station but you have to request for an appointment, mahal ang gears 'dun, about two blocks from the dog. There's another one that I used to visit in Ginza near Imperial Hotel/PAL office. I guess the PAL guys would know if it still exists. I got my Accuphase amp from Laox's off-duty section in Akihabara for about half the retail price (Y200,000). Suwertihan din since not all big stores in Akihabara carry good hifi models, kasi para siyang Quiapo-Sta. Cruz, pang masa. But their off-duty sections, usually manned by Indians or Filipinos who speak both English and Niponggo, could lead you to serious audiophile shops. Pero masyadong mahal sa Japan, Sir, unless you buy through online auctions.
