ex-Angela amps now a new music machine!

Postby vintage_dog » Mon Mar 06, 2006 12:08 am

these classic Angela 91 monoblock amps (with AudioNote OPTs and all-ASC oil filter caps) have now been fully modified to take 5U4G rectifier tubes and 6SN7gtb drivers!

beautiful and smooth sounding amps!

now being broken-in driving a pair of VSA VR1s :D

Wow, Francis! Before break-in how does it compare with the A 91 in it's original form?

I'm guessing that the GTBs have added some dynamics and overall presence but what does the rectifier add to the mix?

I'd love to drop in on M.E. and check 'em out!

the angela 91 was sluggish and rolled off on highs, loose at the bottom...

These are driving the VSA VR-1's beautifully. These standmounts are certifiably SET FRIENDLY. :D :D

While my PP amp has me satisfied for now, the 300b brings a lot more texture and timbral realism to the music. The bottom end still has a bit of baby fat in it but I expect this to improve with age. Will certainly have fun breaking these in!

Thanks VD :!:

Hi Francis,

Has there been a dramatic change in power handling after it was modified? :)

Hi Francis,

This picture evokes fond memories when I still worked at the shop. This was the chassis that was featured in Steve's latter newsprint catalogue shortly before he went on-line.

Thanks and HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!
