EICO HF-35 MONOBLOCKS!!

... rare and collectible...this is one of my reference EL-34 PP amp...spent over p120k+ to bring them in, have them restored (all premium parts) and re-tubed.

Letting go for "SOLD". Why? I have the even rarer Eico HF-60 (Eico's flagship monblocks) with Acrosound transformers :-).
I don't need 2 Eico monblocks, do I? ;-)

Here are the pics:

http://www.wiredstate.com/gallery/eicohf35

The monoblocks will include:
- matched pair Svetlana El34s (new)
- 5AR4 rectifier tubes
- NOS 6SN7
- NOS EF86

This is what Bob Higgins (an Eico collector, audiophile) wrote:

"I have a pair of these amps. I don't think I have ever heard any better sounding amps at any price.
Background noise is not detectable (with 90dB speakers). Dynamics are completely unrestrained. Harmonic signatures are lucid and natural. Vocal performers sound as if they were present in the room. HiFi disappears and only the music remains.

As near perfect as it gets.

Technically, the circuit used is the Mullard 520, a British equivalent of the seminal Williamson circuit. It is this circuit, plus the massive and excellent output transformers, that are responsible for the superior sound.

You DO NOT need to scour the earth for NOS output tubes. I am using JJ E34L's (purchased from Triode Electronics) and they sound excellent. "

Hi Francis, does this come with the optional enclosure and bottom plates? thanks.

doesn't have a cage (never used vintage amps with cages to prolong life of tubes). comes with chrome-plated bottom plate.

these amps will only be available this december. if there are no takers in december, they will be withdrawn on sale and will sit in the attic :-(

okay, i got curious and decided to bring-out my sonus faber minima amator. they've been hibernating for a few months now. it's 4 ohms, so i hooked them up the hf35 (this has 4-8-16 taps). let it warm-up a bit, and put on a favorite jazz CD.

the SF MA were atop the contours, but the staging was simply amazing - deep, wide, so 3D...am in love with this combo...guitars were so articulate, heck, even the bass was so well defined i thought i was listening to much bigger speakers...no hint at all it comes from these bookshelves. the Eico just gave it so much life it was alive :-)

is it the violin? the Eico hf35 or the minima amator? frankly, who cares? tonight, i'll just enjoy my music. :D

now am torn...

should i (sell), or should i not, should i, or should i not...

Can jadis better them? Or a marantz 8B? I suppose that's even harder to answer when one listens and enjoys the music. Selling it so others may likewise enjoy it is such a good idea. Which now?

just read a mod on this amp converting the ef86 into triode (12ax7). if no takers, will work on this conversion soon...

James, the EicoHF35, HF 50 and HF 60 KILLS a Marantz 8B!
The new Svetlana EL-34 tubes sound GREAT in this amp.
I own a pari of HF60's, my best high powered amp.
I have heard HF35, HF50 and HF60 head to head with LS3/5A IMO the HF35 is a bit better than the HF50 or HF60 via the Rogers.
Francis, I think you will regret parting with this one!
The cage is ugly and will cause heat build up.

it's official. i am withdrawing this item for sale.

after the holidays, these monoblocks will go back to the master craftsman (rivo) for a new set of restoration:
- conversion to a triode pre-amp section (from ef86) for more tube-rolling options
- tweaking the feedback section to further lower distortion and gain
- inserting a choke under the chassis for an even smoother rectification
- rewinding the power transformers to 220v to avoid any accidents
- wood sidings c/o handyman

another exciting amp will emerge from an already giant killer :-) this 45 year old amp should last another 45 years.

thanks for helping me "see the light" on these amps tubedude...

there are now 3 folks on queue to try them out.

they are in the original restored state by hypertriode. have not been able to do any of the planned mods above...forgot all about them actually. circuit is stock but parts are all premium...

:D

they are meant to outlast your lifetime...they have already survived close to 50 years...

the voigts don't need the power of the HF35s.

tried the HF35s earlier...drove the VR4jrs and LS3/5A with ease
