never tried this combination before and i must say, the 15095a+PV11 combo works perfectly with my MC cart (ZYX Bloom) on the TD124.

am quite happy spinning more records... all analog and tubed all the way. sweeet, nice blooom :). listening to eva cassidy now ....

TD124 (Morch+XYX Bloom) -> ALTEC 15095A step-up (wiring by RRivo) -> CJ PV11a (buggle boys and tfk) -> stock Marantz 8 -> Tannoy Stirling

now using the combo with the marantz 8 driving a pair of spendor LS3/5a.

playing mozart by the smetana quartet.

sound does not have the full body of the the tannoys, but very engaging...

Nice!

I've been enjoying (really enjoying) a rather similar setup-similar from TT to Preamp:) Very Musical!!

TT:

TD124-sme3009-Zyx bloom

Step-up:

Altec 15095

PreAmp:

CJ Pv5

When I grow up, I want to have toys like VD!

May I recommend that you also try out the diminutive beyerdynamic step-ups? They also do quite well with the Bloom Cart

I also forgot to say (and this will not really be news to most analog guys) that both the Altec and Beyerdynamic step-ups work extremely well with the Denon DL 103

i agree with raf, i used the beyerdynamics with the denons i also used the altec 4722 which has a nice sonic qualities which i thought outperformed the denon mc step ups. this has been part of my experiment this year, having bought several types of input tranies doing duty as mc step ups. this is a nice experiment and i have found plenty of good ones and a few duds along the way.

i sourced mine in ebay, i got lucky with the beyersdynamics and bought several pairs at a very reasonable price, the same beyers have gone up to 25-50 usd each! Rene has a couple of pairs. the 4722 is a bit harder to come by there was a very nice pair in ebay for usd 120 about two weeks ago and one can buy it immediately. this is relatively reasonable asking price as some of the 4722 available out there is getting more expensive. i was reading setup 1's expermentation and i like the 4722. the 15095 or 15095a are almost similar in sonic quality though much more cheaper and easier to find. over the past few months i have found some very nice examples such as rauland, harman kardon, RCA, tamura, dukanne and western electric. each of these impt tranies has thier own character. since i am using only denons (103 and 103r) i can only comment on what i heard through these carts.

just this afternoon, i switched amps. from a PP Marantz 8 to a modified Angela 300B using JELabs circuit. massive irons and big oil caps and using the high-power VAIC VALVE VV30B from Prague (now KR). boy, i missed this sound. details galore with the dynamics intact. huge sound. the music just flows and you get transfixed. there's just something about SETs that's simply magical....

:D

TD124 (Morch+XYX Bloom) -> ALTEC 15095A step-up -> CJ PV11a (buggle boys and tfk) -> modified Angela JELabs with VV 30B (10-15wpc) -> Tannoy Stirling

"KR Enterprises Vaic VV30B.
Super Tasty 300B on steroids. They are tight, punchy, dynamic, clean. Optionally designed for higher HT voltage, and higher current for up to 15W per tube in SE ! wow! "
