Sir VD -I'm very interested to try the Altec open baffles. Unfortunately I'm overseas for a week. But if no adoptive parents turn up before the 20th of May, please keep me in mind! I could pick them up on that day or any time convenient afterwards. TIA

BIG MISTAKE PATMAN!

I ear-tasted the M1 and loved it. The AI sound tasted so delicious and scrumptuous that I ended up shelling out for an M3! Way cheaper than the latest incarnation but glorious nonetheless.

I've been giving the OBs a workout fo the past week and have to say I am really impressed! My preconceived notion was that this design would be very good for soundstange and ambience but likely to sound a little thin somehow due to the lack of a cabinet. Wow, was I wrong!

These things produce serious bass and full bodied mids. The only thing I find lacking is the treble extension, for obvious reasons, but they are very good as high as they go. Those old Altec drivers are really something

Thanks VD for the opportunity to be a temporary foster parent

glad you're enjoying them. the OBs have the much-preferred altec alnico drivers (not the more common altec 403a which are rolled-off). i think there are only 2 OBs here in the country with those drivers. they also sound amazing with even lower powered SEs like 45s, 2A3s and the 10Ys.

cheers!
