Guys with bi-wirable LS, do you bi-wire? or run a single pair with jumper cables? Any brand you can recommend?

Thanks

I bi-wire mine with Analysis Plus.

Clear Ovals for the lows, Oval 12s for the highs. Ferdie can sell you the ones that are spaded on one side and banana on the other. Makes it look very neat.

Cables sound quite good out of the box already but after a good two weeks they open much more. Very balanced and neutral, and a very high performer considering it's moderate cost. Build quality is superb.

I highly recommend these.

cheers

Hi raffy,

Thanks for the reply. Have you tried silver wires with your set-up?

Try this

Postby Mr. Plumber » Thu Jun 23, 2005 11:03 am

:) You can also try this out. Personally did not expect much from it before, but when i tried it, it really has a difference, at least on my system.

Use Bi-Wire, but when it gets to the back of your LS, do not remove the links. Its just sort of using two sets of wires towards the linked terminals. Was the difference because of the large combined cross section of the two sets of wires? Was it because of the lower inductance of the wires?

When using my older non bi-wire LS, i do this configuration with satisfaction (my other 2 are bi-wire versions).

Interesting Mr. Plumber :) I hope those who are bi-wiring can try it and report their findings here.

I just mono-wire them and replaced the jumpers with silver wire.

Hi mozilla. I'm also thinking about this route. Is your mono wire silver or copper?

My understanding is that only the jumper cables are silver. If not, must be getting hungry :)

My main wire is copper and the jumpers are silver - specifically 8 strands of ga30 4N silver/jumper.

BTW, the jumpers are cut as short as possible.

efm2,

have another pair of speaker cables, silver, which i use for my reference set-up. i did try these out with the ls35 in mono wire and was surprisingly dissapointed with the results. the music sounded a bit too colored and buttery for my taste.

i figured that when the ls35a came out back in the day they were used with ordinary copper cables and not the vintage silver that i used.
am much happier using copper on my ls3

just my 2 cents

Very good observation and a cheaper set-up to boot :)

Hello efm2. Raffy is right and knows what's best for the LS. I guess smoothing out the sound further on an already smooth sounding speakers like the LS 3/5a will sound "a bit too colored and buttery...." indeed.

I know it's best to simply replace the jumpers with some good silver (short as possible) in mono wire for best sound. Ferdie use to have those Audio Note silvers on them. What LS manufacturer is yours?

Links

Postby Mr. Plumber » Thu Jun 23, 2005 9:43 pm

:) We've auditioned custom links here in HK about a year ago. Silver (Stirling), Copper (approx. 98% pure), & Gold Plated Silver 24K :D . Many preferred the sound on the Silver links. Personally i prefer the Copper links but they oxidize pretty fast. The Gold Plated links sounded a bit too fast to me.
:) If my memory serves me right, the WS gang that came to Hong Kong last year met the owner of the above links.

Hi mozilla,

Have you tried using silver wires for the woofers and copper wires for the tweeters?
In your case with the silver jumpers , where do you attach your monowires? To the tweeters or the woofers? Thanks
