i found a site in the uk called falcon, and they seemed to be building crossover networks based on the original BBC specs for around GBP28-30.00 the drivers are kef 15ohms i got for gbp45 each and the tweeters are gbp50 for a pair. interesting avatar, singy babe with bouncing boobs! can't keep my eyes off her! :D do we have one where it is more revealing??

Hi Pigdog,

There is no 15ohm driver. May I clarify the model # of your drivers?

The 15ohm LS3/5A is made up of:

Woofer: Kef B110 Model: SP1003 (8 ohm)
Tweeter: Kef T27 Model: SP1032
xover: FL6/23

while the 11ohms LS3/5A is made up of:

Woofer: Kef B110 Mode: SP1228 (6 ohm)
Tweeter: Kef T27 Model: SP1032
xover: SP2128

Cheers

The cabinets will be an interesting challenge as well. From what I've learned from the LS gang here these cabinets are "tuned" too. Tama ba Moz? :)

This is a cool project you're undertaking!

Please let us know how it turns out.

Jack,

'though am not Moz noa an LS User, what I've learned from the LS site is that every component (ie, wood used for cabinet, veneer, bolts, crossover components, speaker drivers) of the LS 3/5, under BBC standards, should be properly tuned, to maintain a linear frequency reponse throughout the entire listening bandwidth . That's the reason why the crossover network for the LS 3/5 is very intricate.

Tried doing one a few years ago, when I got myself a pair of speakerlab woofers and tweeters similar to the B110 and T 27, respectively. never finished it :(

Yup. Imagine though if you could actually pull it off? Wow that would give you MAJOR satisfaction! I'm cheering pigdog on perhaps to live vicariously through his efforts since I don't have the talent to do it myself

well it may well turn out to be an expensive if not difficult proposition buying bits and pieces of the speaker, the crossovers are not expensive nor are the drivers, they are rather reasonable, however it is the cabinet that find expensive, a good cabinet built to BBC specs is selling at around GBP188 for a pair and that does not include the baffles, the foam, the binding posts, etc... although i would like to hear from the more expieriance users if they have ever tried using cabinets that are made locally, i have options in hongkong for a locally made cabinet based "supposedly" on the BBC specs. the hongkong tech somehow felt that with heavier wood use instead of the MDF, the sound may be better... hmmm an interesting dilema... should i build my ls3 according to specs or should i be a bit more adventurous and try heavier wood?
any thoughts from the expieriance users would likewise be appreciated
