here's another SET-friendly "branded" speakers from diyhifisupply. its a sub-satt speaker system that's rated 100db/watt/meter.

you can purchase it in KIT form too.

it has an active solid-state amplified subwoofer.

here's a short review of the CDM1se. the article says it mates well with
300b amps.

i had the non-s.e. CDM1 years ago driven by a ss acurus amp. it had similar sensitivity as my SF Concerto. while my concerto can be driven by my 300b amp, it sometimes lacks the uuumph that i look for in playing heavy jazz

I paired my B&W N805 with my ASL 300B SET but I didn't feel it was lacking uuump until I hook it up with my 100W PP amp. The N805 is bright in general but the 300B sweetened it. I missed that sweet midrange on my 100W amp.

i agree sir.

i suppose there's even less hope for "uuumph" to come from 2a3 and 45 amps with these speakers.

What do you think about the Usher X719 being driven by a 300B?

levi, if you play mostly light jazz, vocals, the combo may suit your taste. if you like rock and pop, forget it.

Levi,

Judging from the variety of amps I've heard driving the X719 - these are speakers that appreciate more power than what can be provided by 300Bs. They are not exactly power hungry so driving them with low power amplifiers would have acceptable results especially for civilized music playback but it is not an ideal match due to dynamic compression resulting from inability of lower power amplifiers to move the midwoofer. Like most oversized stand mounted speakers, their sensitivity has been sacrificed a bit in favor of bass extension and greater bass output. I think 50Wpc or so push pull tube amps are a lot more comfortable driving them.

vd,
have u heard or would u know of non diy speakers that approach the sound of the brines fostex specially when it comes to vocal tone? aside from the omegas of course. ive auditioned several but nothing comes close to the openess of the fostex based diy...ibang klase tlaga boses ni diana krall sa fostex... :D
the closest imho are the sonus faber but would u know of a speaker that would be a better match for 300b in terms of drivebability?

am still looking. :) actually, that's the reason for this thread. so far, my tweaked brines-fostex is hard to beat for the 300b at the sub 50k price point.

if you find one, let me know.

So far I've had satisfactory results with my Monitor Audio S1 on the 300b, and similar to your experiences - playing the same speakers on a higher watt Push pull gives just as enjoyable results, albeit a different character

Hey Arnold, short of putting you in a rather tight spot here, but I just have got to ask you: among the speakers you mentioned above, which one in your opinion best mated your 2A3 and 45 amp? Perhaps you can list 'em down in descending order. Or if you wish, you could even PM me na lang. hehe. Thanks in advance pare koi!

Hi Racio,

I heard the Triangle Comete's at Hypertriodes shop, driven by a pair of 45 monoblocks, and the sound was quite good, smooth, warm and elegant. IIRC, Ihatejazz was there too, and we both preferred the Triangles over a pair of Omega's with the 45 amps. Of course the usual (YMMV) disclaimers apply!

Enjoy your search,

You input is much appreciated OF. But I'd be lying thru my teeth if I don't admit that I'm extremely keen on listening to your Auris-2 one of these days. hehe. :D
