Speaker for mono set-up

Postby edgarryan » Sun Aug 09, 2015 4:00 am

Besides a made-to-order speaker, what can I use for a dedicated mono set-up? Will a center speaker be good enough? What do you guys suggest?

Any decent speaker will do. You can even use whatever you're using for your stereo set up

HT Center Speakers are not full range speakers, as I recall. As Dafos mentioned, any decent speaker - that has full range capability - should be good enough for mono setups.

Yes Jon, I forgot to mention "full range" which HT centre speakers are usually not since the emphasis for the centre channel is usually for voice.

Thanks for the replies.

Now, what to do with the extra speaker?

Choose 1 in this line-up from Lin Gomez if your space can accommodate 1. Very good for mono recordings.

Well, speakers are often, if not always, sold in pairs. I plan to use just one speaker for a true mono set-up. So, what do I do with the other speaker?

Would be quite difficult to stack them, since I plan to place the speaker near the ceiling due to space constraints.

Those look good, but I don't have the space, unfortunately.

So as not to let the spare speaker go to waste, would it be advisable to make a new cabinet, then put the drivers of the two speakers in that to make just one speaker?
