Hi To everyone,

Its quite obvious that this post is way too late for our Soundlab owner to see..

But, I think some guys out there might be looking for some help, on major restoration of ES speakers and long ribbon speakers.

I have personally replaced a couple of Martin Logans panels (CLs , Aerius and Script ), also ribbons for the Genesis series 1 and 2.

The Genesis i & ii ribbons are either the 50 inch Bohlender Graebner or Carver 48 inch ribbons.
The store owner who had these Genesis was able to sell these for a premium price after my repair.

Quads 57s and 63s are the easiest to repair,as parts are all over the web, Btw i own eight q57s and a pair of 63s and have repaired them.

NO Magnepans yet but they seem easy to repair, as these use thick mylar diaphragms.

Its just a hobby for me, so i can not accept rush jobs. Please Post or Pm if interested.

For absolute midrange beauty, for me nothing beats the 57s.
You do not need to play it loud to enjoy the music.

The 63s are also nice because of its ability to play louder,
it is also very coherent because it does not divide the hi and low frequency in to different panels.
They designed the panels to move like a wave or water ripple using time delay circuit.

I prefer the 57s over the 63s,for the lifelike vocals it produces.
Have not tried the newer Quads, hard to find a used one locally.
They all use the 63s time delay circuit also, but i think they added a bass only panel on the bigger models e.g.2905, 2912.

Hi jarjar,

Amazing you know 8 Quad 57s. I've heard stacked Quads ala HQD. Are you selling some of your 57s?

Have only stacked four units, (with out decca ribbons.) using diy stands before. Would love to hear an HQD quad even the diy kind.

No plans of selling them, but i see lot of these in the market every now and then. The important thing to check are the wooden (plywood) frame and grill. It is easy to own a pair or two pairs of these if they search hard enough.
I my case i bought about five really bad ones and the rest are weak bass panels and some had failing wooden frames.

Hi jar jar bluebird,

May I ask what amplifier(s) you use with your Quads?

HI Mullard,

I used original Quad 2s and also tried a pair of Hartung Otls.
