anyone interested in trying a Goodmans Midax driver? I have some sitting around doing nothing, it would be a great incentive to order if i knew how it sounds!

I remember having done one set of speakers (with axiom 80 if I remember correctly, trebaxx and medaxx components) for Rene Rivo some years ago.

Just an update on my horn set-up.

Midbass horns with altec woofers inspired by Inlowsound. Because of space constraints, no other way to place them but on top of the midhorns

I love it how they integrate with my iwata midhorns. Need to have one more amp to replace the pioneer HT amp driving them right now. With my small room, I don't have a better placement with my tweeters than inside the midbass horns. Haven't tried to place them lower though which I think is ideal.

The midhorns before installation.

Very dynamic indeed. I'm enjoying them so much. It's like listening to headphones! The imaging got higher because of the tweeter placement so my solution is to raise my sofa higher also. :D

"Ano yan?" My wife uttered in amazement upon seeing them after installation.

Midbass galore Dan!

Maganda na dati mag bass ang 416 with my big cabinets. Pero iba pala pag ang horn eh midbass territory and inaabot. Mas maganda pa kung nasa floor ito. But my small room and corner placement compensates for this. Dayo na kayo sa Pampanga!

Buboy,

For the meantime, altec 803 gamit ko sa midbass.
Bass cabs - up to 125hz
Midbass horns - 125hz to 500hz
Iwata midhorns 500 hz to 7khz

All 24db LR except for the O75 tweeter which is cut 9Khz 6db. To my ears ok naman integration and coherent sounding. Mas maganda pa blending ng midbass and mid horn. Ang di maganda dito dagdag gastos kuryenta. :D

If not for the minidsp mahirap implement ito sa passive.

Updated picture with a better Sony SS amp for midbass duty.
Image

A fellow horn enthusiast who auditioned the system commented on improved mid high performance compared to my previous system without the midbass horns. It could be that the midbass horns added coherency to the system paving the way for mids and highs to shine.

Thanks for looking!

JBL Scoops

Postby camotecue » Thu Sep 25, 2014 6:25 am

Another monster of a speaker by my partner in crime, Lin Gomez. Thunderous even when driven by a 300B SET amp. What can I say? Effortless!

With altec multicell horn

Now with JBL horns. I like this combo better.
