Braun PS-1000 Turntable

Postby Superman » Sun Nov 01, 2015 8:09 pm

Hi guys! Anyone here who has (or had) a Braun PS-1000 Turntable? It says in lencoheaven that it's an "idler wheel-belt drive" turntable. Seems rare and quite heavy. Thanks!

Heaviness doesn't necessarily mean better. Just take a good example of the Hanpin made turntables - Stanton, Reloop, Audio Technica, Pioneer (PLX-1000), American Audio, etc. Hanpin installed sheets of lead inside just to make them feel heavier. But it doesn't serve anything at all. What a way to cheat the consumers and making them think that its heaviness makes it more durable and better.

Unlike the Technics 1200. it's heavy because of its insulation resin which serves as a big factor in preventing humming sound.

I am not familiar with the PS-1000 but here's my PS-500:

Braun products are sought after by Dieter Rams collectors.

Thanks sir! I have posted a picture above. Apparently the PS-1000 is a higher model vs. your PS-500. While the PS-500 is considered rare, the PS-1000 is "more rare" and elusive :D

Wondering how does it perform compared w/ Lenco and Garrard?

It's a good turntable probably better classified with suspended belt drives like an AR or Thorens TD150/TD160. When I got it many years ago, I compared it to a Bogen B60/Lenco L70 and Rek O Kut L34/L37with ROK arm (all in stock plinths) and IMO the Braun was outclassed.

It will also be a major task to fit another tonearm to the Braun.

Thanks for the feedback, sir!

Now I understand...my friend is from Germany that's why he speaks highly of the Braun...
