Even with the buzz generated seeking for the 1200 revival, I wonder how it will fair is the market. Just before it got discontinued, brand new unit is already about 60k. Preown averaging 20k get a longer shelf time that cheaper tables. It is a holy grail for most turntablist but I doubt if most would even consider it with the price which I'm sure will be much higher at this time. I suppose that was the reason for the discontinuance. The market is not big enough.

Agree.
The old 1200 was one of those Japanese products that are worth more than what they are selling for (like their watches. :) )
Fully depreciated toolings and a developed supply chain allowed them to continue until dwindling volumes meant costs couldn't be covered anymore without increasing prices.
Technics could have done two things with this relaunch - redesigned the 1200 with more cost-effective materials and easier manufacturability, and revamped the look to allow a higher pricing.
Is there a market? Maybe there is, but not the old 1200 market but the one occupied by VPI, Clearaudio etc.. Quite a risk for Technics but who knows they might pull it off.
Whether it will be for those looking for the "1st upgrade path" that the old 1200 provided remains to be seen.

Incidentally, I bumped into ihj at hyperaudio's vinyl bazaar this morning and he said the market for high end turntables is quite brisk these days. :)

I think Panasonic is withholding details on purpose. Good marketing.

My bet would be that the 1200 reboot will not be DJ oriented at all. I agree that the 1200 market as we know it is now extremely small since it is relegated to turntablists and no longer include beat matcher since new dance record supplies have all but dried up and the beat matchers playing new music have gone digital. Pati ako nag-succumb na sa convenience ng USB stick. I'm thinking the Mk7 will likely be more along the lines of the MK1 and not the Mk2...n's. Maybe simpler rotary pitch or maybe even no pitch control at all. Cute siguro kung yung 33.3-0-45 "cambio" ibalik. I do expect a heavy dual layer plinth and the new DD motor and a variant of the already familiar arm and arm mount. The other will be the one shown, an updated SP-10 with an outboard controller with a removable armboard for any arm from 9 to 12 inches.

My fearless forecast is that the new line up will include the following....

1. A multitude of rebadge Chinese oem entry tables to cater the mass market. Think of the multitude of panasonic washing machine for the Asia market.

2. A sl1200 with new bells and whistles such as usb output, builtin phono preamp. Digital speed display. Think of Daniel Craig's James Bond.

3. A SP10 iteration to showcase their R&D. This... I'm most interested.
