there' a certain madness to record playing. its not automatic. it takes a lot of patience. you have to handle a record in a right way. clean it real slow then place it on the turntable. lift the needle slowly and place it lightly on the spinning record. not anyone can do this. there is a secret rhythm.
all ive been listening to are my records. and i cant stop looking and drooling at the marketplace.
thanks to merlin, bebop, and recordmogul for the real nice deals on vinyl.
i have taken all my cds and placed it in a box. and i took the cdp out na rin.
it's crazy.

Way to go northwardnimbus, that's the drill when playing a record. It make record playing more enjoyable than just spinning cd's. I still play cd's but mostly for background music.

Salamat Onedown :) I was told by my uncle that there are record sellers in Manila worth visiting. He mentioned Ric, Aling Mars, Tony, Tukmol and Gman. I have met only Bob, Greg and Manny Claraval so far. I hope you could point me to these people 8)

I met Gman a year ago, a nice and very accommodating guy. I have not seen Ric for a long time while Aling Mars and Aling Linda are sisters if i am not mistaken. I don't know Tony and who's this guy Tukmol? What a name, sounds creepy too, just in time for the halloween though

Me too - I started collecting records when I'm only 14 years old during the mid 60s. There are some second hand record shops in Quiapo where you can buy some U.S. pressings but during that time these shops (from mid60s to mid70s) are flooded with Taiwanese pressings, the jacket is only made of paper with a plastic lamination mostly Motown releases, The Cascades, The Critters (Younger Girl), The Association, The Beatles, The Hollies, classic rock like Led Zep, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Steppenwolf, Bloodrock etc. There are also many shops in Raon & one in Escolta but they only sell sealed local pressings (I can't afford buying sealed ones due to a tight budget) and there are I think 4 listening booths in the Escolta shop where I go sometimes just to listen. I remember saving my school money to buy records and always making sure that I have 50 cent coins left in my pocket for the jeep journey home. I'm only using a "Claire De Lune' stereo set with Pioneer turntable, floorstanding speakers and not really worried about the sound quality, I'm happy as long as there's a sound coming out of the speakers. I'm sure some WS record collectors still have these Taiwanese copies.

I brought my record collection with me from the UK and so glad that I did. Digital has no comparison unless you spend US$50k or so.

Do the Manila used shops have good quality US or European pressings?

Hi John,

Please check on the FEATURED SELLERS (Software) by clicking the board index. There are dozens of vinyl sellers with great condition US/UK/European pressings. One seller who have regular stocks of UK/European pressings is BEBOP, he have a shop in Makati and is very well recommended by anybody.

Vinyl collectors are lucky to have lots of choices right now compared to the late 60s and 70s when most vinyls you can buy are counterfeit Taiwanese copies as mentioned in my previous post. There could be dealers in affluent areas in QC or Makati that I'm not aware of but being a poor 14 year old student at that time with a very limited budget, I can only afford to buy cheap ones.

BTW, you made the right decision in bringing your vinyl collection from the UK. That means you saved lots of money than buying them there. I live in west London - Greenford, Middlesex.

Best regards,

strictly_vinyl
