Final Generation TDK MAX-G

Using the more durable Anti-Resonant Reference Standard II cassette mechanism.

This is the last of the best tapes ever made. Still have a few sealed units. ;)

Nakamichi Tapes

Image

These were made by TDK. The quality is better because the tapes are taken from the middle of the spools from the TDK factory.

Some Nakamichi alignment tapes:

The one in the middle is used to evaluate the tape as it travels along the heads. It is fitted with an angled mirror.

A Sony force gauge cassette

Image

This is used to measure the the pulling force of the take up reel. Too much pull results in stretching/damage to the tape.

What is the correct way to store tape?
Most of my reel to reel tapes disintegrated, i have a few sealed reels and maybe 10 recorded from vinyl, maybe 5 sealed blanks and a few hundred cassettes. (the cassettes are all from the early 80's from Ansons, my UK friends would order around 50 each if they knew is was UK bound and i would end up buying a cheap suitcase to carry them all).

Nice deck! One of the best ever.
Are they coming down in prices now?

I still have my tapes around but I think the inconvenience factor doesn't make me play my Technics deck anymore. :(
