I have not owned newer variants of the 103 i.e. 103D, 103R, 103FLS etc., so I can't comment on these, but the standard 103, I have. Its hard to beat for the price :) To think the newer variants are better than the standard 103. :)

As to MMs, not to advertise or anything, I have owned Clearaudio's entry level Alpha. :) It was nice for the money. :) I think that lists now for $300.

I have also owned a Sumiko Blue Point. Its an MC, but high output, so no need for a step up device. :) You know me, I don't fancy giving reviews, but what I can say is that I liked it in some aspects, but its a different animal as compared to Clearaudio's Alpha. This one retails for $250.

I have tried some of the entry level Grados, the black plastic ones, and not the more expensive wooden bodies. OK na rin yun. :) I think those range from $50 to $200.

There are tons of MMs now available at that price range, but I can't say anything about it since I have not owned, and tried them in my own system and room. :(

But IMHO, you will have a hard tme looking for something at the range of $300 to have better performance than the 103. :)

Not really sure yet if the Alpha is $250 or $300. But the US dollar list prices of all Clearaudio products have gone up. :x This is due to strenghtening of the Euro against the US Dollar. :x Clearaudio products are made in Spreakenheit, Germany. :D

hi francis,

knowing your preference for lush, warm and sweet sounding music with midrange to die for, i think you'll be very happy with the Grado wood bodies like the Platinum, Sonata, etc. both are within your specified price range -- if you know where to look (and i'm sure you know where  )
