i found the nextbase claim of HDCD fake. it does not have HDCD decoder, at least the unit my cousin bought. it did say it supports HDCD (of course! any redbook player can play HDCD in compaibility mode) and even has an HDCD logo. BUT NO DECODER! :x :x

Despite the US$3000 SRP ... we will try our darnest to price it below P100k. :)

I've heard the prototype version of the droplet cdp which is much larger than the pictured production unit, with black granite top instead of aluminum. My impression is that the Droplet is a grown up and more mature version of the Ref 2.2. It is airier, smoother, more refined, richer, fuller, more relaxed, more spacious, more articulate and more detailed while retaining the good timing, dynamics and big wide sound of the 2.2.

I was able to hear it here in Singapore (Droplet came out here aound 2 ~ 3 months ago) and it sound quite impressive although the set-up at the shop was not giving full justice to this player.

I didn't expect it to be a very big player. If you will just look at the photo, it seems typically small, but you might be suprise when you see it in person.

Here is the review and compared to the Reference 2.2, it is a league or two above its smaller brother. The reviewer keeps on stating how well integrated all the frequency is from top to bottom.

Still to early for a review since the unit has barely been powered for 24 hours ...

But the initial impressions from the limited audition of the prototype unit still holds true. This has a more mature, more even tempered and relaxed presentation, more spacious, as well as weightier and more refined sound compared to 2.2.

Edwin is correct. This thing is BIG. But at least only about 3/4 the size of the MONSTER prototype. :)
