Living Voice speakers already available

Living Voice

Living Voice of Nottingham England is famous for their two big tour de force horn speakers: the Air Partner and Air Scout both of which feature a whopping 105 db/w/m sensitivity. They are among the few speakers out there that are perfectly capable of recreating lifelike dynamic range, dynamic contrast and vivid but natural musical expression.

However, very few music lovers actually have enough space at home for a pair of huge horns that need to be disassembled to be able to fit through the door. Nor can most music lovers afford their stratospheric price tags. Living Voice then set out to design a more home friendly as well as more affordable speaker that would be able to do the same special qualities that horn speakers do so well: sound big, dynamic, alive and full - with very little power.

The result was the Living Voice Auditorium: a 94 dB/w/m stable impedance floorstander that is capable of room-filling full, natural sounding but dynamic and expressive music It naturally captured the hearts of many music lovers in the UK, garnering rave reviews and numerous awards. It was followed shortly by the Auditorium Avatar and Auditorium Avatar OBX each of which further refined and extended the accomplished, groundbreaking performance of the Auditorium.

We are proud to announce that all these miniature but big sounding floorstanders are now locally available for us tube lovers.

Get your SETs ready. :D

Living Voice Auditorium 2

The Auditorium loudspeaker reproduces music with believable scale and dynamic contrast. The vivid, engaging presentation captures the life and immediacy of the concert hall. Complex, heavily figured passages are reproduced without the characteristic congestion of many of today's high end designs. A large, coherent picture is painted with confidence and freedom whilst the fine low level resolution develops tonal shade and colour to the fullest and most natural extent.

rony,

Unfortunately yes because these goodies are made in the UK. But it's on the low side of six figures. :)

These babies still sound best with solid state amps even the Rotel or Naim integrateds to get their bass down to the 35 hz region!!

Hans

Tube are good with these speakers but the solid state will amaze you. They are refine sounding so sometimes putting tubes can just smoothen these out too much, lacking in details.

With Rotels or Naims, they sound quite smooth and unfatiguing already so can you imagine what tubes will do to these.

Still, tubes are great with them. But personally, I like s/s w/ them. Your mileage may vary.

Hyperion,
Any idea as to how big (or small) a room should be for the LV auditorium? Does it like lots of space behind it?

ferds,

I'm happy with the Auditorium 2's performance with tubes so far. These definitely are not lacking in details whatsover - if anything I am surprised by the details - especially midrange nuances and treble information that they are recreating. They have easily surpassed all my expectations. (so much that I am now entertaining thoughts of getting Avatar or OBX for myself hehehe)

I tried my McCormack and although it was good, it just does not do space and presence in the way that only tubes can do.

chuckyboy,

These ideally require a large wide room. They seem to be made to order for my 26' wide room.

But they seem to be versatile in terms of placement, sounding good whether close to one another (with less toe-in) or wider apart (and greater toe-in). Yes, since these are rear ported speakers - it is best if they are at least a few feet away from the wall.

chuck,

these speakers will work in a small room but they are better in a bigger room as what hyperion has stated. At least 4-6 feet away would be better. Although I do know someone that has these at 13 feet away and they can still sound very good.

Hans, sure why not, am sure the avatars or the OBX would be worthy consideration to replace or add to your Sonus. But am sure there will always be something you will miss with your sonus.

Hi Hyperion,

Got the info below from

http://www.soundscapehifi.com/lv.htm

Will you offer the same support, , like changing the drivers?

Louie

The entire Living Voice Auditorium range have foam surrounds for the woofer drivers, will this be a problem in Singapore's humid climate ?

The foam surrounds will wear out, but during their whole lifetime, they will provide the Living Voice owner sheer delight, especially in the mentioned areas of speed, transient handling, and dynamics - which is among the best in the industry right now.

So what does one do when the foam surrounds wear out ? Read on below ...

How long is the warranty for the drivers and will the foam drivers be re-foamed by Scanspeak ?

The warranty is 4 years, worldwide, and in our experience with Scanspeak drivers, they can last a long time (we can't claim that for other brands of drivers). Scanspeak will not re-foam the speaker drivers, but it is recommended instead to change all 4 drivers. Then the LV owner will have another round of musical enjoyment. Re-foaming by 3rd parties is not advisable, and can change the parameters of the drivers.

Ru9,

Yes it is only logical and proper that we offer the same kind of support that Soundscape offers. The foam is not as susceptible to humidity as typical foam surrounds and Living Voice told us that they are guaranteed to last significantly more than their warranty period.

From a dealer in Singapore

Hi,

They can last longer if in a good environment; however, we don't want to
misrepresent the durability. The reference for these speakers are their top
models, the horns, which are among the fastest in the world. Hence, the use
of foams, to approach the speed and transients of the horns as much as
possible. You can compare it to many speakers, and it will be evident,
especially with rock music, although they are really excellent all-rounders
for any music. If it's slow, it is a limitation of the amp or source used.

During the driver's lifetime, they will give you a lot of pleasure. Nobody
in Singapore has ever sold their Living Voice yet, except to trade in for
the next higher model. That speaks a lot.

At any rate, the drivers are not expensive, all 4 drivers can be replaced at
about USD 350 only. You only need to save USD 100 per year. I believe it's
a small compromise. Why go for a slower less exciting speaker,
and be less happy for the whole warranty period, or change the whole speaker
again later anyway ? Think of it like people who use tube gear, tubes
definitely will not last, but they still play with tube gear. Some tubes
can be more expensive than USD 350 within 4 years :) Other speakers that
need replacement drivers regularly are Avalons (their midrange), Martin
Logans, Magnepans, Apogees, Lowthers, even Wilson Watt Puppy 5 last time.

There is no change in the drivers for the Mark 2 version, but improved sound
from changes in the crossover.

From Living Voice

Dear Louie,

Thank you for your email.

Your question is reasonable and often asked. All we can say is that so far, and to our knowledge, no
drive units have perished because of humidity. We have been exporting into countries with tropical
climates for coming up to ten years now, and have therefore been pleasantly surprised.

It is reasonable to expect a foam surround drive unit to survive for about ten years or so in a
temperate climate, such as ours. We therefore judged that 4-5 years would be about the limit in a
climate such as yours. But so far we have been proved wrong.

Just briefly - a few years ago we took measures to pre-empt this problem, should it arise and had
some drive units made with an additional special coating which seemed a good idea. However, the
sound quality was so severely hampered that we dismissed it as an option out right.

All drive units in the Auditorium range are made for us in Denmark by Danish Sound Technology
(Scanspeak).
I hope this helps with your concerns.

Kind regards,
Lynn Scott
