watching prof. cocoy at the decks and listening to him explain his every movement, i realized how easy mixing vinyl can be :geek: . especially if you have invested the time (30+ years) and money ($$$), and know the history and anatomy (entrails included) of each of over a thousand songs, multiplied exponentialy by their 3 to 4 extended versions. at least this early... i know... i will never be good

thanks to prof. cocoy for a wonderful primer on vinyl mixing. i really appreciate your insights into the intangibles of djing.
thanks also to melvin and dan for conspiring to make this event possible.

Due to all the noise this thread has made the PRINCIPAL of WS has called on me.

I may have to do some "explaining" come November.

It just occurred to me that there is a big possibility that our teacher DJ Cocoy will be teaching in the same venue as the Michael Fremer!

Wooooot! Wooooot! Congratulations Sir Cocoy! This calls for a celebration!

From what I heard, most of us are free on the night of Feb. 22. Painom ka naman sir!

Cheers!

Lets get the ball rolling for DJ101S2

Postby dnk » Tue Feb 12, 2013 3:41 pm

In the year of the water snake, may our beats move as smoothly as the snake and our transitions be as fluid as water.

------------------------------

@cocoy - looking forward to the GRAND opening.

@mixx - nice mixes sir Edmar! I really like the madison avenue mix and from the ticks and pops i hear, I assume that this was mixed on real vinyl, right? On the first song by TFF, the intro seems to be extra long. Is this from an extended version of the song or did you mix it yourself with effects/sampler? I really hope you can join us on DJ101S2.

@bebop - correct. you should not led your precious records to DJs/DJ wannabees. you should GIVE.

@TAS - lets get the ball rolling and start planning for Session 2. I hope we can come up with a venue somewhere in Makati so more people can attend. of course, priority is still the resource person's availability.

------------------------------

So, aspiring DJs, lets do this! Any suggestions? Who is coming?

If anyone is up for it, I will be packing CLASSIC HOUSE & DISCO VINYL at STRAIGHT UP this weekend. I am also planning to break-in my new DJ Booth.

I will be open to questions in between tracks.

Lets get the ball rolling for DJ101S2

Postby dnk » Thu Feb 14, 2013 8:38 pm

Alright people. Let's have a show of hands on who is coming when.

DJ Cocoy will be playing 10pm onwards, on both friday and saturday. We need an aproximate headcount for the table arrangements. As you know, tables get a bit scarce on weekends.

For friday, there will be a carpool from san juan (c/o noly). Please coordinate with him directly. Let's see how it goes for saturday.

I hope other resource persons can make it as well so we have someone else to bug with questions while DJ cocoy is technically "working". Hehe

-----------------

As for my attendance, I will be late on friday but I will be there early on saturday.

See you there!

Nice to see this thread humming along.

I'm an audiophile first. A bedroom dj, second-- 26 years running, been through all the changes in music styles. I'm a Beatport, Traxsource and DJ pool guy now...

Check my mixes at Official FM. My handle is Polar Bear Music.

http://official.fm/polar_bear_music (Click on the note icon at the bottom left of the page)

I have about (17) 80s DJ volumes in there from New Wave, Italo Disco, 80s Club, 70s Retro/Swing for those fans of 80s music which got me started on this thing.

Enjoy.
