DJ101S2 Field Trip Report

It was our pleasure. Although there was no hands on last night, I was able to learn a lot by mere observation, aside from the questions that I asked from time to time. It was like observing wild animals in their natural habitat.

One valuable insight I learned is that you should balance your song selection between hits and not so famous songs with nice beats. Makes it sound fresh, even though most of the songs played last night were over 20 years old. Hindi nakakasawa. Most of the people there last night had no idea how old the records being played were and they were all moovin to the groovin. Well, except the group of older ladies who wanted to dance the swing upon hearing Ben Liebrand's Half Century mix.

Here are some photos from last night, pardon the quality though.

Last but not the least, DJ Cocoy, the total "Entertainer" :o ;)

Attn Horror Students:

There is a UK magazine in Fully Booked on sale now 'HOW TO DJ"(P290 price).

I got a copy. Though it tackles on the digital aspect it is an informative read. It will also bring you up to date with all the current DJ technology.

They are in limited quantities so I suggest grab them while they are still available.

Just scored a (slightly modified) Rane MP-24 mixer. Perfect for all the VINYL that I picked up recently and soon to add this coming week. Getting all old school this past week.

DJ101S2 Field Trip Report

Postby arnel90 » Sun Feb 24, 2013 12:00 am

Dropped by STRAIGHT UP with my wife and 2 kids. Great view and a very cozy place. DJ Cocoy showed me his arsenal of vinyls ready for spinning for the night. Most of the songs he played were easily recognized by my son since that's what he often hears at home too. :)

Now, if that isn't reason enough, then perhaps the debut of teacher DJ Cocoy's Wednesday program, aptly called Discothèque, will get you heading to BGC this Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at anytime after 5:00 PM.

Come a bit earlier to witness the unveiling of DJ Cocoy's newly customized Technics SL1200-RB decks by The Analog Source ala Orange County Choppers style. Be one of the first to hear how great they sound or how lousy they perform, depending on how you see the glass, if half-full or half-empty.

Come in your best 80's inspired "get-up" and you just MIGHT convince the sponsors to get you free drinks for the night. I wonder whos coming in sporting a Lotus Eaters haircut? As usal, Wiredstate members get the best seats in the house. Right beside the DJ's booth, in the middle of where all the action is. Unless, of course, if it rains.

Be there or be square!
