For me this is not an upset bro. Gonzalez is a great puncher. In fact he's more of a knock out puncher than Mares. And speaking of experience, Gonzalez's record speaks loudly for itself. Mares was the favourite among fans and boxing critics. I had favoured Mares to win though but in a thrilling and tit for tat war. My prediction was a UD win for Abner Mares. I never expected it to end in just first round. Gonzalez regained the belt he had lost to Ponce de Leon whom Mares beat via technical knockout in his debut fight in featherweight.

By the way Bai, I remember this is the same Gonzalez whom Gerry Penalosa knocked out via a body punch. Gerry was miles away behind in score cards against the classy Gonzalez then suddenly Gerry caught him with a body punch. If I remember it right, it was a left hook to the liver. They fought in bantamweight division.

As fellow WS member Edrel Sison has pointed out, Gonzales had these two guys that Juan Manuel Marquez also had when he was preparing for the 4th fight with Pacman: Nacho Beristain in his corner, and nutritionist Angel Heredia (linked to Olympics doping many years ago).

Your guess is as good as mine. :D

Donaire vs Darchinyan 2

Postby pinoy_usa8 » Mon Nov 04, 2013 1:35 am

why Darchinyan say Yes to this rematch after so many years?

is it for the money?
or he saw something that we didnt see that he can beat Donaire this time.

Gusto nya makabawi. And they will be fighting in featherweight. Darch thinks he can beat Donaire at this weight class. Lets see. The guy is still a force to reckon with.

Nonito was clearly behind the score cards till the 9th round came. Darch had obviously done his homework well when he was doing what he was doing, that is, pick Donaire off with one-two combinations or one ultra quick left and recoiled back to avoid being clipped by Nonito's vaunted left counter. The "raging bull" avoided his come-forward-face-first style and looked very sharp in his punches. As a result. Darch went ahead in points. I was beginning to lose hope Donaire would win. Then came the bomb. Then The End of Darchinyan.
Donaire looked flat-footed. He didn't have that speed and agility in his previous fights. Maybe its the weight? That was his first-time fight in featherweight. He hadn't even had a tune-up fight on that weight class before facing the "raging bull".
But all is well. Because Donaire ended it well, and in a sweeping fashion.
Congrats to our boy.

I wonder how he would handle Regondeux come rematch time.

If Nonito's "alibi" is true :D (that he caught a flu and was feverish already on that fight night), then he did quite well despite the illness. But if it was only an alibi, then Donito was just plain lucky catching Vic getting reckless in 9th round. A rematch with Rigondeaux might turn out to have the same outcome - I mean assuming Nonito would improve, then so will Rigondeaux!!! :D

not a boxing expert by any means, but judging from what I saw during the Rigo fight and the Vic fight - a rematch with Rigo will yield with the same result.. I think Rigo did very well vs Nonito

Postby pinoy_usa8 » Thu Dec 12, 2013 12:06 am

Broner is bigger than Floyd Jr.

bigger head &
biggest mouth.

ito ang laban na tinatawag Matira ang Matibay (a toe to toe brawl)

Di lalaban ng toe to toe etong big-mouthed Broner. Baka mautas sya ni Maidana. Broner will be more on a skilled-style of boxing.

i dont think so, flat footed Broner will slug it out,...but with caution because he knew Maidana got a higher percentage of a KO rate.

I didn't see the fight. But boy did i laugh my ass off when i saw the result in the Ring Magazine website and how Broner had lost. I'm pretty sure this loss has injected some humility in his haughty and braggart character. So much for the "next face of the boxing" rant of this trash-talking American. Maidana was "Da Problem" he couldn't solve.
