The Richter scale is not a physical device, but a mathematical formula. The magnitude of an earthquake is determined from the logarithm of the amplitude of waves recorded on a seismogram at a certain period.

app. 200 dB of sound will kill you

In Siberia app. 320 dB generated by a meteor impact knocked down houses 600 miles away

There most probably was an Adam and Eve. random samplings of mitochondrial DNA show that humans all over the world regardless of color were descended from one mother, most likely a female primate out of africa. Akala ko pa naman we were descended from aliens, o baka mga audiophile lang!!!

The energy released from a single fissioned U-238 atom is strong enough to visibly nudge a grain of sand.

The protective sleeve (usually plastic or metal) placed at the tip of a shoelace is called an aglet, from the French word aguillette, meaning "a small needle."

Without aglets to protect the ends of a braided cord, the individual fibers will unravel or fray. The part of the cord that is unraveled because the aglet is missing is called the feazing.

manure was used as fertilizer in the early days and shipped from point to point. of course, it would be shipped dried for less weight. but the holds of the ship would take in some water, thus wetting the manure and starting a fermentation process. the gas emitted would fill the holds and when someone entered the hold with a lit lantern . . . BOOM!.

they eventually learned why these explosions occurred, so everytime they would ship manure, they would have to store it higher so that the water would not reach it. they would label it Ship High In Transit. and the rest, as they say, is history. no shit.

Do you wish you could do the same?

The majority of reef fish change sex at some point throughout their life. In fact, reef fish that remain as the same sex for their life span (gonochoristic) are in the minority.

There are many different patterns for sex-change. Some species will begin life as males and switch to females (protandry), and others switch from female to male (protogyny). Further still, some will change sex in both directions, and others will be both sexes at the same time.

The key breakthrough in the development of the hydrogen bomb came when Polish math genius Stanislaw Ulam realized that the copious amounts of x-rays released by a fission (atomic) explosion can be used to compress fusion fuel (initially deuterium and/or tritium but later on, lithium deuteride) to thermonuclear temperatures (over 30-million degrees C).

Before the blast (hydro) and heat (thermo) of an atomic explosion reaches and destroys (disassembles) the fusion fuel assembly inside the bomb casing, x-rays (radio) would've had ample time to light up (thru compression) and propagate a thermonuclear fire.

Ever noticed in the films how nuclear explosions always begin with a total white-out as the flash envelopes everything? That's X-rays dissipating the majority of the explosion's energy. Lagging several seconds behind are the heat and blast waves.

HEALTH

Do you know, heart attack cases lowered up to 50% for the past 7 years due to drug lowering cholesterol, blood thinner aspirin (18 mg), esp the Angioplasty?

45,000 patients in 14 countries alone were monitored, study shows;
heart attacks in -------1999--20%
in 2004--11%
heart attack deaths in 1999-- 8.4%
in 2004--4.6%
Although there are 1 million heart attack recorded each year in the US alone.
Way before 1999, people who got heart attack had a bigger chance to die, than today. If you will survive on the first attack, second or third attack could be the fatal one.

Today, because of these Angioplasty, people lived longer. But angioplasty procedure is very accurate only when applied 12 hours after the first heart attack.
Study revealed that 2,166 patients did angioplasty between 3 to 28 days after the heart attack. Four years later, 17% died. But still, its a good percentage rate, if to compare without having an angioplasty at all.

Its a procedure that they will put a small metal tubing & baloon it in your blockage arteries, to open up the clogging, called the "stent", & its a medicated one. They will snake it through your groin (w/ a micro cam) going to the main arteries up to your heart.

(thanks to my doctor for playing a very very good video game. mine was done last year, living a normal life again,.. sex, eat all i want, drink & still smoking, but im planning to quit smoking na talaga)

3. A duck's quack doesn't echo. No one knows why.

this was disproved by a show on TV (national geographic?) by doing actual measurements.they placed a duck in an anechoic chamber and then in a very live (echoic) room to record the difference. the quacks echoed/reverberated.

the other things in the list should be tested for truth. about chocolates killing dogs, is it chocolate candy (as in hershey bar) or choco drink(like chocolate eh)?

and coke as motor oil, when you say it can be used for oil, does it mean the engine wont be damaged? wont the heat evaporate the water leaving the sugar content to solidify and gum up the engine?

the show was mythbusters.

as for chocolates, the substance that can be lethal to dogs is theobrine. if the candy or milk has throbrine, better not give some to your canine companion.

I was told that dog might die if it eats onion.

Found this on my Diabetes Onlnine Newsletter today:

When glass breaks, the cracks move faster than 3,000 miles per hour. To photograph the event, a camera must shoot at a millionth of a second!
