Scottish over English!

Postby PIP_8912 » Sat May 30, 2015 3:24 pm

Hello! My name is Phil and I'm a new member here in WiredState.

Note: I'm not really an audiophile. (I wish I am).
I'm just an individual who has an own taste when it comes to sound.
Everything that I will share is just pure opinions.. So I still need a lot of help.. :)

I went to several audio stores last week..
Auditioned the Wharfedale 122 since I reviewed it for more than a month before I decided to test it..
Well, it sounds good.. the vocals is warm, highs just fine, but overall it quite sounds fat.. but still, the detail is there.. I was about to buy it when I decided to look and audition for other brands.. from megamall, I walked a little more going to shangrila mall. I decided to go there since my friend told me that there are several audio stores there.. My feet just led me to 5th avenue electronics.. I asked the staff there if they have budget bookshelf speakers.. and yes they have, Tannoy! "Ano yun?! Ngayon ko lang narinig yun!"
British daw yun.. so sige.. sinubukan kong i-audition...
Just the first 3mins of listening to the Mercury V1, wala na kong nasabi.. I can even hear when the singer opens his/her mouth..
I decided to go for the Tannoy.. Made a downpayment..

Pls tell me.. Have I made the right choice?

If what you heard is pleasing to your ears and you are happy with what you heard ...... then I think you made the right decision and considering it is within your budget.

I agree with JoeyGS. In this hobby, your ear and what the sound makes you feel is king.

Tannoy has a long history of making landmark speakers from entry level to high end.

My first speakers were a pair of Tannoy Sixes. Paired to a Nakamichi (IA-3) or a NAD integrated amp (304), I got a lot of listening pleasure out of that rig.

You will continue to hear other brands as you go along in the hobby. Keep an open mind but make sure to decide with your own ears.

Happy listening!

Definitely your preference is the most important thing but if it makes you feel even better, Tannoy's pedigree far exceeds that of Wharfdale. ;)

My first speakers were Tannoy 605LEs. Actually I still have them - can't bear to sell them. :)
I find vocals to be their strength. They rock too!

Thanks for your responses!
Made my speakers worth more cherishing. :)

It's not yet complete though...
I still have to look for a budget vintage receiver and a decent subwoofer..
