What Are You Listening To RIGHT NOW?

I put on Ella Fitzgerald Sings the Cole Porter Songbook. How appropriate that at 38 degrees Celsius this Manila summer, I'm listening to "Too Darn Hot!"

Listening to Fourplay, track #3 "Between the sheets" (nabili ko kay Rene). Superb bass playing by Nathan East makes me want to reach over my Yamaha bass guitar and follow his bass rifts. But, its almost midnight, I decided to just set back and remain a spectator... marvel at this band's cohesive jazz playing. Hayuf! Parang, pahinga muna ako sa classical, balik jazz ako dahil ditoooo!!!

I picked up some nice LP's at the local record show recently. Yesterday I was making my way through a Vanguard box set called "Folk Songs and Minstrelsy". WOW, just incredible stuff!!! Very worthwhile if you happen to see it.

If someone's interested I can post more details.

Van Morrisson "Moondance" on vinyl sounds thin, lightweight and dry.

It's a 4-LP box set, marketed by the Book Of The Month Club (The Classics Record Library). These are Vanguard recordings and pressings. The artists include Tom Makem, Cisco Houston, The Deller Consort, Leon Bibb, The Weavers, Joan Baez, Bob Gibson and a few others... plus two full sides of Odetta.

Sound quality is very very good - no audiophile tricks but very natural and typical high production standards found on many Vanguards. Many of the recordings are live performances at Newport Folk Festival.

Flora Purim, Perpetuel Emotion. A good mix of jazz, samba and lazy
music. I like best her sultry rendition of My Ship. I didn't like it until I
heard her version. She's in the same league as Elis Regina and Gal Costa.
This is a "dim your light and watch the tubes glow" type of CD.

Rod Stewart "It had to be you" album. Very nice album. I just love to hear Rod Stewart renders standard songs. It must be a sign of maturity but still he maintains his singing style. The last track "That's All" was really very emotional.
