check out any gene krupa, buddy rich material. IMHO, drum
solos are one of the best materials for demonstrating the superiority of LPs over CDs (yup, even XRCDs).

- "Dialogue" LP by a japanese artist (forgot his name)...
- Buddhist meditation LP

- "Sing, Sing, Sing" - has one of the best drum renditions I heard on CD; part of the live GRP album. Telarc also came out with another version.

a few more to try:

Mickey Hart - Planet Drum
Jack de Johnette - Pictures
Percussion Music - NJ Percussion Ensemble (Nonesuch label)

These are "audiophile" grade recordings.. or pretty close.

just saw a sheffield lab drum LP here in Seoul, selling for USD25
these koreans must have hoarded half of the world's LPs and commanding prices for them :x e, ano naman ang magagawa natin...

if anyone is interested with this LP, let me know & I'll get it for you. There are also lots of Chezkys, SuperAnalogue, RR, etc, but prices are at USD 25 - 60... Clair Marlo Letting Go (?) sheffield lab album is USD40...
buset talaga!

o, gusto nyo?
while I'm here, let me know... i'll be back in Manila by Sunday Apr6.

cheers!

Well, I'm a big "Sassy" fan and one of my favorites among her classics is her rendition of "When your lover has gone" w/ Louie Bellson on drums as her only instrumental accompaniment. I've yet to hear anyone top that heart stomping collaboration. 8)

Rene Rivo has a CD that is titled "jungle bell"???

It will really test your system from MID Bass to low...

Unlike other drum CD there is some novelty in the recording, it is fun to listen to....PASKO!

The drums are loud and hollow sounding!

Tony Bennett almost always has Clayton Cameron on drums (and Ralph Sharon on piano). I like how Clayton plays w/ his sticks and brushes...not overbearing, not showing off, but still skillful in his own right.

I also like the percussion work on the Mambo Kings soundtrack.

1. YYZ from Rush both live albums, Neil Peart could be in the top 5 best drummers in the world
2. Deep Purple, Live in Japan, I think the song is the "The Mule" Ian Paice is the name
3. Van Halen, Right Here, Right Now, Alex Van Halen awesome speed in the double bass

Hypertriode beat me to the punch with Moby Dick

Led Zep and KISS... my kind of music! :)

For another great track with some good drum beats... i'd have to go with Patricia Barber's "Cafe Blue" CD. Track # 3, Too Rich for my Blood.

The reason I like this song is because I had the opportunity to watch Patricia Barber in Chicago...she sang this song and I can compare how she sounded live over the CD version. I liked both... The drum part increases in volume gradually... and towards the end of the song, climaxes into some really good cymbals... on a good system, you can "hear" where the individual cymbals are placed.
