Thanks for the clarification, sirs.
Ok, Jon, I'll start and let the ball roll.
Some advised me not to post my speaker build for some reasons, but, I thought, what the heck, it'll all be for fun and camaraderie anyway. So, here goes.
Drivers: Sony 4.5" fullrange (plastic coned version with whizzer cones)
Enclosure: Folded Voigt pipe
Dimensions: 6"(w) x 11.25"(d) x 36'(h)
Build cost:
drivers - php 500.00
baffle - 750.00
wiring - 5.00 (magnet wire)
binding posts- 186.00 (from deeco)
miscellaneous - 500.00 (glue, wood screws, sandpaper, transpo)
Cost
1,941.00 (bare)
Aesthetic cost:
+ 2,500.00 (wenge crown veneered plywood)
+ 400.00 (grills)
+ 600.00 (spikes)
+ 1,000.00 (paint and varnish)
+ 500.00 (miscellaneous)
Total Cost php 6,941.00 (whipped)
Initially, I thought of building a pair that will feature unique vintage drivers, but, after checking the prices on the net, the cost to build them will overshoot my budget. My design goal changed radically. I aimed at building a pair at the lowest cost possible. I settled for the Sony 4.5" fullrange drivers which I have in stock. I know for a fact a lot have these as well. So, for the diyers and audiophiles out there, check them out at the Nov HiFi Show. You'll be quite surprised with these.
The question now is how much will I sell them, if ever. Depends on how I will showcase them during the show. Will I field them bare and showcase sub 2k speakers, or, dress them up, and, still, cost like a branded entry-level pair? Tignan na lang natin how they will fare in the challenge.
Thanks.
