here's a chance for you to show how creative and good you are, at the same time make more people enjoy their music without breaking the bank. at wiredstate, we are very fortunate to have very passionate DIYers who build excellent and good-sounding systems which are appreciated by a broader music loving community.

Here's a challenge: build an all DIY amp-speaker system for less than p35,000 and be ready to have it evaluated by a panel of listeners.

i will pay the winner p35,000 (but i get to keep the system :) )

Deal?

simple rules:

1. SET-based (triode or pentode) - design may or may not be original
2. DIY speakers - any design

criteria:
sound - 70%
cosmetics - 30%

deadline: May 15, 2012

please post here if you are interested in joining. if you don't like the idea of a challenge for reward, then do it for fun!!! :)
all, please let other folks know about this project.

DIYers can collaborate with others to build the system...eg, one can build the amp, and have someone else build the speakers.

the idea is being able to create a DIY system that's excellent sounding and affordable.

VD,

Granted it is rare that DIYers do both speakers and amps, how about the P35,000 be split between the two? Let's say 25k amps and 10k speakers? :)

O-offer sana ako ng added prize, CD na kumakanta ako, pero baka walang sumali talaga

sali niyo na rin si Mang Rod, Francis :)

dapat lang sumali si Tony Tecson (aka "tony" in WS) and Joey Abad Santos (aka joe3rp).

wouldn't it be just dandy if Joseph Esmilla (setup1) and Rene Rivo (hypertriode) joined, too?

Has to be set tube? Transformer (cores) + tubes + caps + sockets(not recycled) = 20k na...remember 2a3 tubong bastos ...

ok to use solid state amp ????

Parts from "old/used amps" ...not acceptable...cheating

How do you price speaker drivers ...raon price? If you use old stock/used = ????price.

Wood/Paint/glue will also be actual price also.

I guess dapat labor lang ang "no cost".

There should also be an accounting of the actual material cost prior to entry.

So winning price is 35K + actual cost of speaker/amp 35K = VD can keep it! Correct?

Keith, it is our job to take out the judges while the entrants set up. I just don't know if they'll be in any condition to do any judging when we bring them back! :D :D :D

hmm...sounds interesting, before i make a decision, there are several things i am interested to know.......

1. size of listening room, H x W x L
2. distance of the panel of reviewers from the speakers
3. how loud is the listening session going to be, how many tracks per set-up..
4. what program material is to be used and the source.

i would like to suggest common preamp and source....

we may not be able to give you these specs for the design.

it is safe to assume the system will be used in home setting (room or living room) in a variety of musical genre.
feel free to make assumptions and let's see :)
good luck
