I actually read it also that people prefer kt88.

So when my kt120's burn out should i get kt88 instead?

well jon, 'better' is a relative word. what's good for the goose is not always good for the gander, as they say. can you tell us what you look for in the sonic spectrum? and what type of music do you generally play? ie, vocals, jazz, rock, classical, electronica, etc. there is no perfect tube as there is no perfect sound or sound system. knowing your listening bias would help a great deal in your choice of tube.

Well said sir...sound is relative to the listener.

i listen to almost all types. But mostly jazz and oldies.

I read that kt88 sounds warmer than kt120...so ok for me i guess?

i would agree with the that, that's why i'm using kt88s myself. but in my mind, what intrigues me is what is the warmest kt88 brand. if only i could test psvane (which a premium line even and available locally), and the present reissue of mullard...but I doubt it. :D

i am of the belief that it is not the tubes per se,
but rather what you do with tubes that really matters,
so my advice is to audition units that used the kt88 and decide yourself....

any amp is only as good as the maker made it, and is a sum of all the parts, not just tubes....
to me 90% is the output transformer, so get the OPT right in the first place, tubes are easy,
you can just unplug and replace them....
