Surely isn't tubular but it is a tube alright. Built by Korg and Noritake to be used in analog synthesizers it consumes lower power, creates less heat and can last up to 30,000 hours.
The small size and low heat mean it doesn't need sockets and can be mounted directly on a densely packed circuit board.

Tube mobile devices in the future? Car head units perhaps? Exciting!
