Line Level Stereo to Mono Sum

Postby Quiel » Fri Aug 17, 2012 8:59 am

i need a quickie solution to sum left and right line level outs to mono. am wondering if it's safe to use something like this. looks like there some 500R inside it but haven't opened one so am not really sure and feel safe about using. Is this ok to use for what i have in mind?

am unsure if this is instead intended as splitter (mono to stereo).

quiel,

just DIY a stereo to mono cable, with a 1K resistor in series on each channel.

I use a similar Y-connector for stereo>mono connections and there are no resistors inside.

I think these are designed to split a single signal into 2 rather than merge a stereo signal. if you use such a device to "monotonized" a stereo signal, wont you be shorting the left and right channels ?

Indeed, shorting, crosstalk, upstream, impedance matching: issues am concerned about but am really not sure.

i guess DIY would be safer as suggested by Jon.

Salamat sa inputs.

Yup, that's correct ;). I was referring to the other stereo pair coming from same muti-out preamp. Am trying to play with something like 2.1 setup. Got a passive woofer with built-in xover. Will drive with a mono amp.

if you dont have the amp yet, you might want to consider subwoofer plate amp. Anthony Audio sells this
