Oca's Versatile DHT Amp

Postby camotecue » Thu Jul 19, 2012 1:45 pm

Posting in behalf of Oca Imperio (Oscarmiguel of WS)

He says this is his last DIY all DHT amp project and maybe the only one in the Philippines.

Designed by the mad scientist himself and implemented by John Poscablo - a fellow engineer.
Power tubes: 483 DHT at 0.7 W (shown in picture together with his balloon type 10 DHT). The amp can take the following tubes also: 45, 2A3(all 2A3 equivalents) PX4, PX5 and 300B.
Driver tubes : 10, 26 and other European DHT (interchangeable drivers).
Output tranny c-core amorphous with interstage and choke loaded configuration.
According to oca, the amp has wide frequency response by blocking dc current in the cores. I have no idea what that meant. :)
I assume there must be some voltage and current selector on the amp for him to be able to swap different tubes.

Picture of the amp. Notice the extra sockets for european dht tubes.

His system:
Speaker: DIY Klipschorn
Other all-DHT Amps:
45/26
10/10 (driver can be tube rolled by using 26, 112A, 71A, 01 and other european DHT)
DHT Preamps
26
10 (can be tube rolled using 26, 112A, 71A, 01 and other european DHT)
Analog source front end:
Revox and teac R2R where he listens to music in mono and stereo. Reels are mostly jazz and big band
Modified TT (can't remember but I think its a Garrard)

Cd player with tube filter

He says those that are Interested are welcome to audition. I haven't heard his latest system but according to oca, the 483 has excellent bass. I have to schedule a listen.

Picture of the other amps and preamps.

Thanks for looking.

Sorry sir for the picture quality. Oca must have taken pictures with a low resolution camera. He may have the money to diy a lot of amps but no money to buy an expensive camera. And his hands must be shaking when he took the pictures - the result maybe of his sleepless nights designing unpopular amps. :)
