GAD-VIVA Capacitors

Postby AbadSantos 7 » Sun Jul 01, 2012 5:32 pm

Im getting some Capacitors for my current Audio Project.

Do anybody have experience on this type of capacitors?

Let's say comparing it to Mundorf MCAP MKP Type (White type) vs Zinc Metallize Type for the GAD.

Cheers.

Hi loi! No experience with the viva caps but the mundorf sounds great especially after 200 hours of usage! Goodluck on your diy project! :)

Hi Doc,

Actually Im more inclined to Mundorf since this was more popular here. However, my requirement
of 630V (from 47uf upward) have no available from the Mundorf Series.

Though the Mundorf M-Tube have the 600V for 47uf but this is on electrolytic type.

Im more favor for the MKP type than the electrolytic type for power supply use.

Just came across the GAD... made in Germany also. Though the SCR have the 630V series for 47uf
but mas pogie yung GAD eh...

Cheers.

You could try these, Obbligato film oil if space permits. They are also not sold locally.

47uF pretty big and heavy though -- bigger than a can of fruit cocktail :)

Hi Edwin,

In as much I love to try out Obbligato, This is not available here in my place.

Anyway still looking for the most practical route...

I heard that Russian MBM Capacitors is also a good choice and cheaper option.

However, not also popular here and availability is a main concern.

Cheers.

Hi... since you are having the amp custom-made, space should not be an issue... Why not use oil cans for PS filtering? they are waaay much better than 'lytics or metallized polyprops.

What are these oil cans looks like? I can see lots of big capacitors enclosed and sealed like can of Spams.

Is this the one? How about vintage type?

Cheers.

so you see, you have lots of other choices, do not limit yourself to what kenedy uses, those caps he used were in his parts bin at the time he made the preamp up....you can do better than kenedy..... ;)

Been in Henggang area last May and had the time to visit that famous electronic retail buildings near the HK border. You have all what you need there. I am sure you can make the best preamp your money can get. I hope to spend a whole day in that area my next trip..

Sir Edrel,

I think you are referring to Lohou. Every week when I was working in Shenzhen we normally go to that place.

Now the nearest to me is Shanghai.

Still have some sources here for me to complete my audio project.

Cheers.
