New here and new to tube amps. Pinoy from San Francisco since '83.

Bought a modded bogen challenger CHA-20 20 watts (original public address head). Mods really for fender electric. It has three 12AX7, 2 6V6GT power tubes and a 1-rectifier tubes. I play acoustic guitar - warmth, clean and clear with very little distorion is needed. I read someplace a 12AU7 is better for acoustic guitars. What you guys think. A direct swap is OK? The schemtics online does not correspond to the bogen i have.

Tony, I see you make guitar amps. can you do a 20 watt acoustic guitar tube amp for me? how long and how much will you charge including shipping.

Let me know thanks.

Hi,
welcome to the forums, perhaps you can also consider a SET guitar amp,i can make one for you using a "6V6 like" tube, rich 2nd harmonics........yes, 12au7 provides for lesser gain.....are you using this amp for practice or live performance?

Hi Tony,

I do church worship band and solo performances. The 20 watt is currently loud enough. For me however 10 watt amp is not enough. I can always mic it if it is not too loud.

SET amp is fine.

Let me know money arrangements, how much and how long to make. I can send money thru xoom.com.

okey, hindi rin maganda ang karanasan ko sa firefly.....kaya ireredesign ko..tatawagin ko syang "Alitaptap"......single ended 6CL6 output tube for about 3 watts....for more grunt.....bitin talaga yung 12au7 na finals......nakapagrewind na ako ng power traffo at opt, will let you know once done, probably week-end next week....

Hi Tony, where do you get your chassis?

I have to build a few guitar amps for my staff. I will be using 6V6 PP, similar to some Fender amps, but with a 6sl7 driver.

Thanks.
