tony builds a guitar amp

inspired by this thread: http://www.wiredstate.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=19440&hilit=bamf i decided to make one for my son.....:)

the schematic is based on this circuit: http://ampage.org/schematics/spitfire.gif

having pulled out the 5Z4 rectifier tube from this amp, http://www.wiredstate.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=24477&p=404763#p404763, i gave it a new home:

a peek inside the chassis, a hybrid psu, uses the 5Z4 with a bridge rectifier:

the output tubes used was a pair of 12W6GT vertical amplifier tubes used on tv's, they are simmilar to 6V6 except that their screens are only rated for 120 volts, a zener string of 3 x 47volt 5 watt zeners got that covered.
TV tubes are plentiful and very cheap, 2 output tubes cost U$1 a peice at Rogalski's in Florida......

so how was the amp build? my son was esxstatic/delighted:

thanks, there are millions of tv tubes still out there, that is why they sell for a $1 each, so it is up to us to find use for them......all my future builds will center around these tubes... 8)

Wow!!! very nice!!! How's the sag from the 5Z4 rectifier? I suggest a 12" Celestion or Eminence speaker

OT question: Is it possible to add a tube tube rectifier to a tube amp with SS rectifier? Selectable switch for tube or SS rectification.

Thanks.

i haven't really measured, the output tube is very much like a 6V6 and can work at low voltages....

adding a tube rect to a tube amp with ss rectifier is doable, except that you will probably be limited to a hybrid type just like what i did, and a separate filament transformer for the tube rectifier and you will have to punch a 25mm hole on your chassis....and for all that effort you will end up with lower B+, but then again you might even like it........ ;)
