Etch your own PCB using Pre-sensintized pcb (dami pics)

hi guys,

share ko lang kung papaano ako gingawa mga pcb ko.. :D :D :D

materials needed:
1. Pre-sensintized pcb w/ developer (from alexan)
2. Tracing Paper
3. Masking Tape
4. Bond papers
5. Clothes pins
6. Ferric Chloride (fecl)
7. Lacquer thinner
8. clear glass

sensya na po kung di masyado malinaw pagkaka-explain.. hehehe

step 1: Design your pcb layout using Protel, eagle or any other software you prepare.. (i used Altium Designer 6 also know as Protel)

heto po ung HEPA Headamp na ginagawa ko.. hehe

step 2: Print your layout in a piece of bond paper..

step 3: Cut a piece of tracing paper enough to cover the layout and secure it with masking tape..

step 4: Print your layout.. make sure you set your printer to maximum detail/quality

step 5: Prepare 2pcs of clear glass..

step 6: secure the pcb to the glass using masking tape..

step 7: Remove the protective film of the pcb and place the tracing paper over it..

step 8: Placed the second glass over the pcb and secure with clothes pins.

step 9: Exposed the pcb under a florescence bulb or UV exposure box for 12mins.

step 10: Prepare the developer solution. 1000cc 0f water per 50g of developer powder..

step 11: Place the pre-sensitized pcb into the solution.. Slightly shake the solution until the tracks area, clear and there is no more blue, smoke like resist coming off the exposed area on the board..

step 12: Rinse the board under running water to remove developer and to stop the developing process

step 13: etch the PCB using ferric choloride..

step 14: remove the photoresist coating with lacquer thinner.

Thank you for sharing Ferds. I know I bugged you about this during the headphone meet because I still use the old-fashioned "laser printer/photo paper/steam iron" way.

I use Express PCB for designing the PCB layout. It's a lot more user-friendly than Eagle and it's FREE.

Ferds, yung nasa Step 10 eh sinisinghot ba yan? :twisted:

Where do you get the developer and the FeCl?

This will be handy for circuits like CCS board for tube projects.

ganito na pala ka-sisiw ang pag-etch sa PCB :shock: :D :D :D Gone are my days of "manually" tracing the circuit onto the PCB :)

The Developer is included with the pcb..

sa Alexan sa pwedeng bilhin pati ung fecl..

nice job, ferds

something to add:

please note that the ferric chloride is considered a pollutant as well as corrosive and needs to be disposed properly.

and that the ferric chloride needs to remain sealed and placed in a cool place until it is needed for use.

good on you ferds.... :D

fecl or ferric chloride is a salt, so it absorbs moisture quite fast, so seal the container when not using..

etching takes shorter time when the solution is is hot, and the solution agitated as you etch your boards.... :D

I just wasted two sheets of 6 x 4 pre-sensitized PCB

:( :( :( :(

It contained 16 pcs of the VSPS circuit and I screwed up the use of the developing pellets :evil: I was excited and prepared the entire 50g and my two board's trace disappeard in smoke before I can completely say "O h S h i t ! !"

:evil:

What I discovered was a solution the size of a big Star Margarine plastic container is all it needs to proper developing.

Hay, expensive (P90 x 2) lesson learned

When I got the solution right, it was damn good! Far far far better than the laser printer method (or even the pentel pen version of the past) and takes less than 25 minutes for the complete process!

Seriously, may alam ka ba na photosensitive na paint, or what ever na pwede ko gamitin dun sa dalawang 6 x 9 na nahubaran?

I followed your steps-

1. Used tracing paper to print the circuit layout, I did it direct printing to the tracing paper. I got the "canson" brand tracing paper from National Bookstore, it has high transparency and very smooth.

Not in the picture is when I sandwiched the tracing paper (toner side down) on the PCB with two glass I stole from the office certificate frames :lol: :lol:

2. Expose to light

3. Developing

This is tough one. As I mentioned I screwed up two 6" x 4" pre-sensitized board. Finally, I got a ratio that works.

4. Etching

Using Ferric Chloride, the etching process is done in about 5 minutes.

5. Cleaning up

Using the suggested Lacquer Thinner, I cleaned up the PCB. Actually, I can dip this again in the super strong developing solution instead of the lacquer thinner.

after a dip with lacquer thinnner, mild solution of muriatic acid(the one we used to clean toilet bowls) can be used to clean the board) toroughly rinse and dry the board.

or you can use "ajax" powder cleaners with scothbrite pads to restore the luster of copper.....after a torough washing and drying....

clear plastic varnish can then be applied to avoid the copper traces from being tarnished with handling. :D
